Ulu Pandan CC YEC's tagline, 'Look UP, Step UP, Live it UP!' is aligned to its vision. The word, "up" has many connotations. Top is one of them, also optimistic, as in Look Up; proactive and willing to serve the community as in Step Up; and living a life that is vibrant and positive, as in Live it Up. Just as important, UP is a contraction of the name Ulu Pandan, and also within the term YUPPIE, w
hich in the case of Ulu Pandan CC YEC stands for Youth of Ulu Pandan - Passionate, Inspired, Enthusiastic. Certainly this YEC has a way with words. But looking at the number of events and activities it organises, it is definitely not all talk. The YEC's flagship programmes includes Camp Pandan, an annual holiday camp for underprivileged children; Youth Xtravaganza, an annual festive event in conjuction with the Ulu Pandan Community Club Open House Day; and Grant A Wish, an annual gifting session, also for underprivileged children. While most of these activities are for the benefit of the less privileged in Ulu Pandan, they also give the youths who volunteer an opportunity to be role models and take on leadership roles. Ulu Pandan CC YEC's Interest Groups (IGs) are just as exciting. They include the Acappella Singing Group, Magic IG, Remote Control (RC) Drifters, UPShot (a Photography IG), Yoyo IG and the award-winning Wildcards Cheerleading Team. As mentors of the Hwa Chong Institution Service-Learning Club (SLC), the YEC has won four SLC awards. One key project is recycling used items and newspapers within Ulu Pandan. Another tie-up with students is in the PAYM-MOE Students Attachement Programme. In 2010, the YEC worked with the students in the planning and ex*****on of the Ulu Pandan Children's Day Programme, which was attended by 100 children. Besides external partners, the YEC has also successfully worked with sponsors. For Grant A Wish 2010, sponsorship came from Thomson Reuters while in 2011, it came from T-Touch. Such support allowed the YEC to plan more meaningful programmes and reach out to more children.
