When you run a children’s home with 100 kids for 20 years, you see what really happens when they grow up.

A father might have one child, or maybe five. But after two decades of caring for 100 children, I can see patterns that no single family would notice.

The biggest one: talent needs a place to grow, and it needs to start young.

Vuthy and Vibol were fascinated by computers, so I put them in charge of our computer room. Both went on to graduate with Computer Science degrees from the Royal University of Phnom Penh. Today they work in the IT industry.

Another boy was creative and brilliant at drawing. But we had no way to develop his talent, and no opportunity to put it to use. He has a job today, but not in a field that uses his gift. I still think about what might have been if we’d had the right tools, teachers and chances for him.

That is why I believe it is so important for children’s homes to expose kids to as many fields as possible and to give them room to explore. Food, safety and school are essential, but opportunity is what shapes a career.

If you work with young people, ask yourself: what are they drawn to, and what could you give them to build on it?

17 top students. 17 new bicycles. 🚲

This year, 17 children in our Non-Residential Child Sponsorship (NRCS) Program finished 1st or 2nd in their class! 🥇🥈

They come from very poor families. OHF helps keep them in school with regular food packages for their families, plus uniforms, books and school supplies. Their hard work did the rest. 💪

Thanks to the generosity of Mr Chang Boon Hok, each of them will receive a new bicycle this December! 💙

The cost of chemical fertiliser has surged by over 30% in the last year. In Prey Veng, Cambodia, many poor farmers are being pushed into high-interest debt just to afford the inputs for a basic harvest.

You can help. A sponsorship of S$192 gives one farming family 6 bags of high-quality organic fertiliser (50 kg each, S$32 a bag) for the 2026 planting cycle. It also restores the long-term health of their rice fields.

🌟 Congratulations, Kim Hei! 🌟
Honoured with the Award of H.E. Sar Sokha 🏆

We have more wonderful news to share from HVPV!

A few weeks back, we celebrated Tri Kim Hei, our youth from Hope Village Prey Veng (HVPV), who achieved a Grade A in Cambodia’s National Grade 12 Examination. She was one of only seven students in her entire school to receive this excellent result. 🎓

Yesterday, Kim Hei’s hard work was recognised once again as she received the prestigious Award of H.E. Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior — with her father proudly attending the ceremony. 🏆

On this occasion, Kim Hei received:
🏍️ One motorbike, plus 2 cases of orange soda and 1 case of drinking water
💵 $100 cash from Vattanac Bank

We are grateful to H.E. Sar Sokha and Vattanac Bank for encouraging and valuing young people in Prey Veng Province to dream big and study hard. 🙏

Welcome to HVPV, Ravath! 🏡 And Thank You to the Monks Who Cared for Him 🙏

Meet Ravath 💛
Six years ago, during Khmer New Year, a young mother brought her 2-year-old son home to visit her village in Prey Veng. Soon after she went back to Phnom Penh, the family received heartbreaking news. She had passed away. She was only 28 years old. That little boy was Ravath.

Ravath has never known his father. After losing his mother, he was taken in by relatives in his home village, who cared for him for the next six years. But as they grew elderly, they could no longer afford his schooling and daily needs.

The monks who stepped in 🙏
The monks of a local pagoda in Prey Veng Province didn't want Ravath's education to stop, so they opened their doors to him. For the past two months, he lived and studied under their care. When the village chief heard about his situation, he report to MOSVY to search for a children home for Ravath.

Today, we're happy to share that 8-year-old Ravath has arrived safely and is now part of our big family at HVPV. 🏡❤️

More kindness from the pagoda 🍚
The monks also donated food supplies to HVPV:
🍚 2 × 50 kg bags of rice
🍜 1 box of instant noodles
🫗 5 litres of cooking oil
🧂 1 kg of sugar and 500 g of chicken seasoning
🍶 6 bottles of fish sauce and 6 bottles of soy sauce

To the monks, the village chief, Ravath's relatives and everyone who helped give him this new beginning: thank you. 🙏

From HVPV to Law School: Kan Nisa Begins Her University Journey! ⚖️🎓

We shared the great news that our Grade 12 students passed Cambodia's National Grade 12 Exam. Today we have another exciting update!

Kan Nisa, who passed with a Grade B, has now arrived in Phnom Penh. She has been accepted into the Bachelor of Law programme at Phnom Penh International University (PPIU). 📚 Over the next 4 years, Nisa will build the knowledge and skills to understand, uphold and advocate for justice.

Moving to a new city and starting university takes courage, and we're so proud of how bravely Nisa is taking this step. 🏙️✨
