Serve Asia is OMF’s short term mission discipleship programme for those who want to serve East Asia’s peoples.

Serve Asia is OMF International’s programme for those who want to serve East Asia's peoples for up to 12 months. OMF facilitates short-term placements with a deep value for mission discipleship and a desire to see participants and their sending communities find their place in all that God is doing amongst East Asia's peoples and beyond.

📣 Join us April 7-17, 2027 in Thailand to celebrate Thailand’s New Year (Songkran) with a weeklong celebration. April is hot season, and we mean HOT! People cool off by splashing water on each other. 💦

During this week, we hold our church-planting training for the Shan-speaking people in northern Thailand. With about 30 kids who come with their parents for training, we need kid-loving volunteers!! Come teach Bible stories, sing songs, play games, and, of course, join in the water fight with the Shan children. Don’t forget to pack your water gun! 🔫

A Serve Asia Worker in Sapporo, Japan shares a testimony about giving flyers:

"I love flyering in Japan; I love seeing lots of people hustle and bustle on their morning commute to work. I love saying good morning to all the people as they pass by and I extend a church flyer to them. I get friendly smiles and bows in return, and occasionally a thank you or a curious glance.

Except if it's a businessman. Businessmen are always stone-faced and aloof, dressed sharply in their suits and haven't a minute to spare. They sometimes look at me, but often stare ahead. I find myself not wanting to extend a flyer to them, based on this disposition. But then I remind myself that they too need Jesus, and that one lost sheep coming back home causes all of heaven to rejoice.

So I keep handing out flyers, hoping that the lost sheep comes home."

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to share your testimony among an unreached people group? Hear from a Serve Asia worker who recently returned from an area that does not have access to the gospel:

“I joined Serve Asia with a heart full of curiosity. I never imagined that this short-term internship would transform the way I view mission and love for others. I learned to live among a people from a different culture and religion, from their habit and love of gathering and doing life together as a community, to the values they uphold about self-worth, compassion, and solidarity with one another.

However, there were times when I felt like an outsider, exhausted, and even questioned whether I was able to serve in this place. Differences in culture, language, and worldviews became everyday challenges. Yet it was precisely through those very struggles that God gradually transformed my heart.

God helped me to see them not merely as a people group I was called to serve, but also as individuals who are deeply loved by Him.

I am learning, and this journey is far from over. But one thing I am certain of: God did not bring me here only to serve, but also to learn His love for this people and how to love more genuinely and wholeheartedly.”

"Over the summer at Tianzhong, a rural town in Taiwan, two churches partnered with the OMF team to run English camps! Many of the children have no knowledge of the gospel. Despite having a folk religion background, parents are willing to register their children for these church-run camps to improve their children's English.

We also sensed that this generation of parents are more spiritually open – there were higher attendance rates for the final presentation this year. Thank God for a beautiful testimony shared by a married couple in our team.

The camp taught me the importance of prayer, team work, God’s all-sufficient grace, His power, and more about myself! I felt anxious and worried that my crafts segment wouldn’t be enough. However, God showed me that He provides me with the words to express the gospel and sufficient craft materials. He even provided teammates to encourage me, pray for me and support me!"

It is an even greater privilege to see God moving through His Spirit. Many kids expressed that they want Jesus to be their friend because He is 最善良的人 (the kindest person). I believe that the seeds sown in their hearts, God will surely grow them into a harvest. Please pray for Taiwan, that young and old will encounter the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Lastly, our team of people from various countries gave us the opportunity to explain to locals that we are serving the same Lord Jesus together. Indeed, our good works glorify our Father in heaven."

“God used two distinct experiences during my first Serve Asia trip to affirm my aspiration to minister the gospel among Thai Buddhists.

Before this Serve Asia trip, I was barely aware there was a ministry to the children of missionary families, commonly called Third-Culture Kids (TCKs). Being able to spend time with the TCKs gave me a sense of community among missionaries in Thailand. That was one of my concerns as an aspiring father. If the Lord wills us to have children, how would they do in Thailand? Seeing children who were being cared for and discipled well despite living in a predominantly non-Christian country reassured me.

After the conference, we had the privilege to spend a few days with a missionary based at Maha Sarakham. First, it assured me that God uses the ordinary, faithful teaching of Scripture to accomplish extraordinary work among Thai Buddhists. Looking back now, I am grateful that the Lord gave me the courage to lead my friends in a Bible study thirteen years ago and has since enabled me to teach the Bible in various settings. Second, my compassion for the unreached and the Thai Buddhists grew. God has doubled the number of Christians approximately every fifteen years for the past 75 years, and yet the number of Christians in Thailand has yet to reach one per cent of the population. More workers are needed, and we must persevere in proclaiming the gospel of Christ.

During our time in Thailand, my wife and I were reading through Romans, and I remembered how God had used Romans to plant in me a compassion for those who have little access to the gospel. Romans 10:14-15 says, "How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, 'How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!’”

I can see how God used every part of this trip, from serving TCKs, to observing faithful missionary ministry, and to reading Romans with my wife, to reaffirm the calling he has been shaping in my life for many years.”

Everything was arranged for Elena's Serve Asia trip. She was ready to go. She was going to serve in a community health project, but because of a political conflict, it was no longer safe to go there. Elena heard this just three weeks before her trip. Another setback for her, because many other doors had closed before as well. She asked herself the question: Does God still want me to go?

We got on a call and prayed together to seek God’s will. Within that time, everyone sensed that God still wanted her to go. Within a week, another placement in another country was arranged. It was a blessed time for her. We all experienced that “God’s work done in his way will never lack his supply” (Hudson Taylor).
