This edition of After Hours promises a brand new prompt, snacks, time to work on your drafts, and good conversation all around. Bring a friend or two! All genres and levels of experience are welcome.

INTRODUCING: SPOKEN WORD STUDIOS!

A full day dedicated to the craft and practice of spoken word.

Spoken word has always been resourceful but it hasn’t always been well resourced. This gathering is one small attempt to change that.

Spoken Word Studios creates space to get into the work around the stage: craft and process, producing and sustaining a practice, and what it takes to grow an idea beyond a set.

Co-designed by Melizarani T. Selva and Pooja Nansi, the day brings together artist-led studios, live demonstrations, practical conversations, project development opportunities and an evening showcase with artists and practitioners from spoken word and the many forms it meets.

This gathering is for artists who have been doing this for years and those just finding their way in. For performers who want to deepen their craft, people thinking about taking their work beyond the stage, and producers, organisers and educators interested in how spoken word is made, supported and sustained.

Since 2016, Sing Lit Station has grown through three different shophouses and countless poetry readings, workshops, publications, and festivals. Along the way, we've welcomed thousands of writers, readers, and curious passers-by through our doors. (We've also vacuumed up what is probably a mountain of cat fur.)

As we celebrate our tenth anniversary, we're inviting you to help us write the next chapter. Everyone has a story worth telling. Posterity: How to Write a Short Memoir is a four-session workshop led by writer, editor and storyteller Verena Tay, guiding participants from initial brainstorm to a completed first draft.

Through guided writing exercises and structured group critiques, participants will learn to shape theme, flow, character, scenes and dialogue into a short memoir of up to 3,000 words.

This course is for anyone ready to put a meaningful chapter of their life into writing.

Shuang is a poet and counsellor-in-training who will be undergoing training with Sing Lit Station and The Centre for Health, Culture and Society at NTU to develop a series of workshops for young adults facing mental health challenges.
