The Police have arrested a 21-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

On 11 September 2024 at about 11.40pm, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Jurong West Street 81. The man attempted to leave behind a debtor’s note at the unit and fled the scene.

The owner of the unit and his neighbour managed to detain the man and handed him over to the Police upon their arrival. Preliminary investigations revealed that he is believed to be involved in five similar cases of loanshark harassment islandwide.

The man will be charged in court on 13 September 2024 under the Moneylenders Act 2008. For first time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to five years and caning of up to six strokes.

The Police have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance or disrupt public safety, peace and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.

Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not work with or assist them in any way. The public can call the Police at ‘999’ if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.

A 33-year-old man was charged in court on Sept 11 for loanshark harassment after a residential unit along Pasir Ris Street 13 had its main door and floor splashed with liquid believed to be coffee.

A debtor's note was also left outside the unit. It said: "Here now come kopi. U see next time come is what lo. Better call me.'

The police said they were alerted to the case on Aug 15, at around 3.40pm.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the man's identity and arrested him on Sept 9.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in other cases of loanshark harassment islandwide.

One mobile phone was seized as case exhibit.

For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, with up to five years in jail, and of up to six strokes of the cane.

The police said they have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities, adding: "Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance or disrupt public safety, peace and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law."

Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not to work with or assist them in any way.

The Police have arrested three persons, aged between 15 and 25, for their suspected involvement in two separate cases of loanshark harassment.

On 31 August 2024, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Sembawang Drive, where the main door and gate of the residential unit were splashed with white paint and graffiti was found scribbled on the wall beside the unit.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of a 15-year-old teenager and arrested him on 2 September 2024. Preliminary investigations revealed that he is allegedly involved in another similar case of loanshark harassment at Woodlands Street 13.

On 2 September 2024, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Yishun Street 11, where the main gate of a residential unit was sprayed with red paint and a debtor’s note was left on the floor in front of the unit.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Woodlands, Ang Mo Kio and Bedok Police Divisions established the identities of two men, aged 18 and 25, and arrested them within eight hours of the report. Preliminary investigations revealed they are allegedly involved in other similar cases of loanshark harassment islandwide. A can of spray paint and a black marker were seized as case exhibits.

The three persons will be charged in court on 4 September 2024 under the Moneylenders Act 2008. For first time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years and caning of up to six strokes.

The Police have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance or disrupt public safety, peace and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.

The Police have arrested two men, aged 35 and 56, for their suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

On 17 June 2024 at about 12.50am, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Rivervale Drive, where the gate of the residential unit was secured with an additional padlock.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identities of the two men and arrested them on 20 June 2024. Preliminary investigations revealed that the two men are believed to be involved in other similar cases of loanshark harassment.

The two men will be charged in court on 22 June 2024 under the Moneylenders Act 2008. For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.
