🤝 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗡𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚, 𝗥𝗘𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗣𝗦 & 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗬

One of the most meaningful aspects of the Charity Governance Conference 2026 was the opportunity for Dr Danny Tan to reconnect with social service and charity sector leaders, especially those who have known him and Odyssey Dance Theatre Ltd over many years.

There is always something heartening about meeting old friends who continue to keep in touch, ask about one another’s journeys and remain generous in sharing our good work with other leaders. It was equally meaningful to reconnect with former Board Members and advisers, whose continued encouragement, introductions and support reflect relationships that extend far beyond any formal appointment.

These encounters are a reminder that strong communities are built through relationships sustained over time. The charity and social service sector continues to evolve, but the willingness of people to share knowledge, connect one another and support work that serves the wider community remains invaluable.

ODT Ltd also extends our warmest congratulations to Ms Sim Hui Hwang on her designation as the next Commissioner of Charities, with effect from 1 April 2027. Having previously served nine years as Deputy Commissioner of Charities, her return marks a meaningful homecoming. We look forward to engaging with her in her new appointment and continuing to learn alongside leaders committed to strengthening Singapore’s charity sector.

Odyssey Dance Theatre Ltd is always glad to participate in the Charity Governance Conference and to stay attuned to the latest concerns, developments and conversations shaping the charity sector.

The Charity Governance Conference 2026 provided another valuable platform for learning and exchange with fellow charity and non profit leaders. With this year’s focus on “Strong Charities: Thriving Through Uncertainty”, the conference offered opportunities to reflect on how organisations can continue strengthening governance, leadership, communication and resilience while navigating an increasingly complex operating environment.

For ODT Ltd, good governance is closely connected to trust. Trust is built through accountability, responsibility, clear communication and the consistent commitment to doing what is right for the communities we serve. Staying connected to developments within the sector also allows us to continue learning from others, reviewing our own practices and strengthening the foundations that support our work across Art, Education and Community.

We remain grateful for opportunities to learn alongside leaders from across the charity and non profit sector, and to continue developing the knowledge, perspectives and capabilities required to serve our beneficiaries and stakeholders responsibly.

It was a pleasure for Dr Danny Tan to witness and participate in the second edition of the Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo 2026, experiencing a new programming structure that brought together diverse platforms for the international performing arts community.

Across the Expo, Dr Danny attended a range of local and international performances, listened to different perspectives through dialogues and panel discussions, and experienced how artists, presenters and arts leaders from different contexts approached creation, exchange and the future of the performing arts.

The variety of platforms also offered valuable opportunities to move between performance, conversation, presentation and informal exchange. Each setting provided a different way of understanding the international arts landscape, while creating space for new ideas, encounters and possibilities to emerge.

Beyond the formal programme, there was also time to immerse in Hong Kong’s culture and surroundings. For Dr Danny, these experiences remain an important part of international engagement, as understanding a place also means experiencing its people, rhythms, environment and cultural life beyond the conference venue.

The second edition of HKPAX was an intensive and enriching experience, bringing together diverse voices, artistic practices and perspectives within one international platform. For ODT International, such encounters continue to strengthen our understanding of the wider arts ecosystem while supporting the relationships and alliances we continue to build across borders.

🌏 𝗢𝗗𝗧 𝗡𝗘𝗧𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞 & 𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗦 | 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗚𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗦 𝗔𝗧 𝗛𝗢𝗡𝗚 𝗞𝗢𝗡𝗚 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗦 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗢 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

Meeting old friends from different countries brought warmth and meaning to Dr Danny Tan’s time at the Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo 2026. Beyond the formal programmes and professional exchanges, the many conversations around the arts, passion and life made the experience especially worthwhile.

One particularly meaningful reunion was with Yuri Ng. In 2001, Yuri generously allowed Dr Danny to sit in on his rehearsal for a commissioned work for the Hong Kong Arts Festival. Seeing him again brought back memories of that period, when Dr Danny was also creating a work for the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts that premiered in the same year.

2001 was also a significant year for Odyssey Dance Theatre. ODT brought 80 teachers and students from Hong Kong to Singapore, where they presented two performances as part of ODT’s Xposition ‘O’ Contemporary Dance Festival at Victoria Theatre. More than two decades later, these memories are a reminder of the ambition, energy and belief that shaped those early international exchanges and the relationships that have continued across borders and generations.

For ODT International, this is also why international arts platforms remain so important. Relationships in the arts are rarely built overnight. They are strengthened through conversations, shared experiences, mutual respect and years of staying connected. A relationship first formed in one city may return decades later with new meaning and new possibilities.

It was also a delight for Dr Danny to meet more Singaporean artists and arts leaders representing Singapore in the international marketplace. Seeing fellow Singaporeans contributing across different areas of the arts brings a special sense of pride, while collectively strengthening Singapore’s presence within the global arts community.

At the Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo 2026, the delegates, friendships and conversations became as important as the programmes themselves — reconnecting with old friends, meeting new colleagues, exchanging perspectives and continuing to strengthen the international relationships that ODT International has built and continues to develop.

One of the most meaningful parts of attending an international arts platform is always the people.

At the Busan International Performing Arts Market 2026, Dr Danny Tan had the pleasure of reconnecting with longstanding friends while also meeting new colleagues from different parts of the world. Some of these friendships have grown across many years and even decades, sustained through a shared commitment to the arts and repeated encounters across international platforms.

Beyond the formal programmes, some of the most valuable exchanges happened through quieter and more personal moments: conversations over meals, travelling together between venues, informal introductions and simply having the time to understand one another more closely.

For us, these encounters remind us that international networking is ultimately about relationships. A meeting today may become a friendship tomorrow, and a friendship built over time may eventually create possibilities for artistic exchange, collaboration and mutual support across borders.

We remain grateful for the old friends who continue to journey with us, and for the new friends who are becoming part of ODT International’s growing network of relationships around the world.

The Busan International Performing Arts Market offered delegates a wide range of platforms to discover, present and connect across different art forms.

From showcase performances and PAMS Choice selections, to speed dating sessions, pitching opportunities and exhibitions, each platform created a different space for artists and arts professionals to introduce their work, exchange perspectives and explore possibilities for future collaboration.

Dr Danny Tan appreciated the opportunity to engage across these different formats and experience the variety of works being presented. One particular highlight was the music showcase at Busan Citizens Park, where performances unfolded in an outdoor setting surrounded by greenery and a relaxed atmosphere.

The combination of live performance, open space and community presence created a refreshing experience and reminded us how much the environment itself can shape the way audiences encounter the arts.

We are grateful for the diversity of platforms at BPAM 2026 and for the many opportunities they created for international delegates to discover new work, meet one another and continue building relationships across the performing arts community.

Congratulations to Mr Casa Kim on his appointment as Artistic Director of the Busan International Performing Arts Market 2026.

For this fourth edition, Casa has introduced a refreshed programme structure and created new spaces for artists, presenters and international arts professionals to encounter one another, exchange perspectives and discover new possibilities for collaboration.

Dr Danny Tan appreciated the opportunity to spend time at BPAM, attend the different programmes comfortably and experience the atmosphere that Casa and the wider team have created around this year’s edition.

We value these moments of connection with colleagues who continue shaping the performing arts landscape across Asia. Beyond the formal programmes, it is often the conversations, relationships and shared experiences that allow international partnerships to deepen over time.

We are always heartened when we are able to witness the impact of our work through the real experiences of our beneficiaries on the ground.
