🧸⚡ Hack-A-Toy: because every child deserves to play!

What does inclusive play look like in practice? Last week, we showed the team from CHI exactly that.

We partnered with the team from Centre for Healthcare Innovation (CHI) to run a toy adaptation workshop at AWWA Early Intervention Centres (EIC). Together, we hacked 51 toys and 46 assistive switches into tools that open up a world of play for children at AWWA EIC. 🎉

Many children with physical and learning disabilities struggle to activate standard toys: buttons too small, too stiff, too out of reach. With a few tweaks to switches and battery interrupters, kids can finally hit, squeeze, or nudge their way into playtime and pick up new concepts along the way. It’s a fun and purposeful way to develop maker skills! 🔧💪

The CHI team rolled up their sleeves, cracked open toy casings, and walked away with new skills, new confidence, and a whole new perspective on what play can look like for every child.

Meet Bharti.

Bharti is marking 21 years in tech by running his first 21.1KM Half Marathon in support of Engineering Good.
