Yes, these are uncertain times. And when you feel stuck, popping a pill, taking a drag, seems like the easiest thing to do.

Years ago, James (not his real name) broke up with his girlfriend. Lost, depressed, and wanting to feel better, he took Ecstasy to feel 'normal' again. What he didn't know was how it would get him hooked. When he tried to get off, he would feel worse. Soon, it was an everyday occurrence.

Eventually he got caught and sent to the Drug Rehabilitation Centre. He knew he needed to change, and started making longer term investments into his health by exercising, running, and making sure that he was out in the sun everyday.

Just a moment of Ecstasy caused a lifetime of pain.

You don't have to go through the same.

In life, don't get high. Go long.

You can take a stand. Against Drugs. So Singapore stays drug-free, for this generation, and the next. Why? Because drugs aren't just a solo fight.

They are everyone's fight.

This Friday, from 7-8pm, at Kovan Sports Centre, come play soccer with our residents. Take a stand together.

First off, thank you! Thank you to everyone who turned up last Saturday for our Ride to Restore event: amazing GMTM team, volunteer nature enthusiasts supporting A’Rocha, Bettr Barista, food sponsors, our tireless staff team working from 5am and all participants of Ride to Restore!

None of this would have been possible without you! You might have found your role small, but to our residents, it is no small feat - because it represents a community that is willing to accept them as they are, regardless of the mistakes they have made.

As the event closed on Saturday, one resident came over to tell us that the event had “no kick”. 50km was too short.

It was testament to how hard everyone had worked over the months to make sure that the residents were well conditioned, but more importantly, that they could come as they were, even without any initial training, to complete a 50km ride, without shame or fear of reproach.

More than just a ride, that morning, there was also a lovely Bloom and Buzz tour with A Rocha, who led participants down a lovely walk exploring the bugs, and the flowers blooming in The Helping Hand. If you missed that, you can join their upcoming tours here: https://sg.arocha.org

And lastly, thankful for the panellists who joined our Sharing Sessions - Sylvia Lim, who joined our Resident Gevin as he spoke on his experience before and at the Helping Hand; and, we heard from Daniel from Cultivate, who spoke about how we could build a resilient generation, that would not turn to drugs as a coping mechanism, but could instead find the love of familial relationships.

Each and every day our residents live in freedom, is a day that reminds us of the power of an ecosystem of support, from the individual friendships you share with our residents, to riding with them as a group, to helping them to find the community they need.

Thank you, and we hope to see you again next year!

Yes, we know, gardens are really, really, hard to keep. You’ve tried everything. Fertilized. Used super oxygenated water for watering. Tried to get more sunlight on the spot. Despite your best efforts, your plants still seem to be limp, and the jackfruit tree you wanted doesn’t seem to be fruiting. How do you make a garden you love?

Well - come and hear from expert permaculture practitioner Nova and Arocha's Mel as they take you on a tour around The Helping Hand’s very own urban garden.

You can even bring your kids along for a special Insect Safari with A Rocha's bug expert James, who will explain the bugs we find around us.

Register for 18 April for the tour, and get precious insights from Mel and Nova!

Stop, stop, you don't have to doomscroll more. You might just be scratching a nagging itch that never seems to go away. You know - the anxiety and insecurity that comes from the bad news we see around, the fears around what tech will do to our jobs, and so you just thumb through more and more content.

You don't have to. Yes, adulting is tough, and we know that anxiety sometimes leads us to unhealthy coping mechanisms.
That's why we're so excited to have Eileen Chong and Daniel Lim, on 18 April, at 1045, to join us for a panel on how to find abundance, amidst our anxieties.

So we don't have to be an anxious generation. So we don't have to turn to more of our phones and unhealthy coping mechanisms.

So we can turn to each other, and learn to depend on humans, and not just tech, to support our most human emotions.

In October 2006, Jason Wong did something no one would have expected. As Chief of Staff at that time, during the chapel service, after sharing his testimony, he knelt down and slowly washed the feet of the prisoners.

No one could have expected what came next. Tears, and a revival. 20 years on, where do we go from here? We were so glad to have met and done an interview with Jason Wong.

Today, you might find yourself in a place where you need to humble yourself. Or in a place where you're stuck, and unsure of what to do next.

Amidst existential uncertainties, where do we find hope? How do we even not get swept away by the technology that already seems sentient? What can we do? Read on to learn what Jason is doing.

Jason Wong was the founder of major movements like Yellow Ribbon and Dads for Life. What is his next movement? Read on to find out.

Join us in the fight:

Drug abuse is increasingly affecting our younger population. According to CNB’s 2024 statistics, “For two years now, more than half of the new abusers arrested were below 30 years old.” With social media making drugs look harmless, increasing the curiosity of youths in trying them, the battle ...

We confess, we aren't always that cool - but we tried to be trendy too. Come cycle with us on April 18?

Yes, it will be fun, but it also serves a deeper cause - the recovery of our residents.

Riding can feel like a solo endeavor, where you’re fighting to reach the end of a long route. Heart pumping, calves sore, and backs aching from hours of bending over your bike, why do you still do it?

Many reasons, but some of it is around the sense of accomplishment you feel from finishing a difficult route with your group, and then heading out to enjoy an icy drink.

This April, ride 50KM with our residents in support of their recovery. Not just for the sake of our residents, but for your child, your family, our future generations. Our future Singapore. So that they continue to live in a Singapore that’s safe, and a place where they can build their biggest dreams.
