From the Arctic to Our Shores: The Urgent Reality of Climate Change 🌍❄️
What happens in the Arctic doesn’t stay in the Arctic. With temperatures rising nearly four times faster than the global average, the melting of polar ice is no longer a distant headline - it is a direct threat to global sea levels and the resilience of coastal cities like Singapore.
On 4 February, legendary marine biologist Dr Sylvia Earle addressed youths and the community at the Singapore Sustainability Academy, sharing the importance of the ocean and polar regions and reminding us why they matter so deeply to our planet’s future. The session also featured a youth panel, where young voices reflected on their role in driving change.
On 5 February, CDL officially opened the second Melting Ice, Sinking Cities Climate Exhibition – The Arctic Impact at the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Organised by CDL in partnership with NParks and Ocean Geographic, this fourth edition of our Climate Action Exhibition series was launched by Guest-of-Honour Mr Alvin Tan, Minister of State for National Development and Trade & Industry.
The opening was further distinguished by the presence of Dr Sylvia Earle, whose insights from her recent Arctic and Antarctic expeditions reinforced the urgency for collective climate action through strong Public-Private-People (3P) partnerships.
As our Group CEO, Sherman Kwek, shared: “Climate change is no longer a distant threat... Through this exhibition, we aim to translate scientific urgency into public awareness. It reflects CDL’s longstanding commitment to ‘Conserving as We Construct’ and our belief that the built environment can play a meaningful role in driving climate action.”
