Have you ever doubted the impact of your presence in missions? Read this lovely reflection from a local believer in the Caucasus who spent some time with a Singaporean mission worker! Whether you're serving in the field or praying from afar, know that you are making a difference in God's Kingdom 💛

This reflection has been translated into English:

"Anna* from Singapore, whom God had called into missions, came to [my area]. She doesn't speak Russian. I don't speak English. It seemed impossible for us to understand each other. But God took care of that. It wasn't just a translation of words. It was a guide into a person's heart.

It's a completely new experience – to receive valuable truths, barely understanding what someone is saying, yet knowing with all your being what they've been through. To understand Who they love. To know the One who changed their life. You look into their eyes, hear their intonations, feel their vibration – and the Holy Spirit erases all boundaries.

Do you know what struck me most? Anna doesn't know me. She doesn't know my real difficulties and experiences. We only saw each other for a couple of hours. But she wrote my name in her prayer notebook. And she said that she would pray for me.

This is so touching. A person from the other side of the world who doesn't speak my language just takes me into her prayers. Just because we are sisters.

Every time I am amazed at how God brings us together. Not by Google broadcast, not by common interests, but by His real, material love and sacrifice of Jesus. Yesterday it was not just the word “unity”, it was a physical feeling: we are brothers and sisters.

And the most touching thing is to realise that God is so real that He gathers His children from all corners of the planet, simply so we can say to each other, 'You are not alone.'

Thank you, Anna. We spoke the same language – the language of Christ."

BE A WATCHKEEPER FOR OM'S SHIP MINISTRY! 🛳️

Watchkeepers stay alert day and night. They protect the ship, support the crew and keep everything running. Without them, our ships cannot sail.

In the same way, prayer is our watch. Prayer strengthens the crew, protects the ministry and opens doors to new places and people.

Europe may seem familiar to many... but the need for the gospel is greater than many realise:
- There are ~744 million people living in Europe, and her Church is shrinking.
- Being a Christian is seen as being part of a traditional institution, not having a living relationship with Jesus.
- In Southern Europe (France, Italy, Portugal and Spain), only ~1.2% of the population are Jesus followers.
- There is a growing immigrant population from least-reached places (and they haven’t heard the gospel!)

Join us at our next Magnify! Prayer Gathering as we turn our hearts toward this region in intercession. We will hear from Terry, a Singaporean worker who has been faithfully serving in Europe for over two decades, and receive a live update from an OM field (to be revealed!) that will share how we can stand with them in prayer for the local Church and the least-reached communities in their midst.

Have you ever wondered: “I like planning and sticking to plans. Is that a bad thing in missions?” Our OM Singapore team member (a fellow Singaporean over-planner) gives her answer below.

____________________________________

Well, as a big ~planner~ myself, I see lots of value in planning well:
- I can steward resources properly to maximise ministry outcomes
- I can honour those I serve or partner with by being well-prepared
- I can focus on the present and not keep thinking about what comes next

So the short answer is: No, planning isn’t a bad thing. But…

When we hold onto our plans too tightly, we may forget how to function in a cultural context where time is flexible and plans are more like suggestions. This tends to drive Singaporean mission workers into a tizzy (which is funnier on hindsight than it is in the moment, haha!)

Overemphasising plans may cause us to unfairly or unkindly impose those plans on others... and we run the risk of genuinely believing that we know better than our co-labourers, the local culture, or God Himself.

Here’s some Scriptural wisdom that provides good balance: “The mind of a person plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” (Pro 16:9)

It suggests that planning has always been part and parcel of the human experience (in both biblical and present times). I think it’s the way we’re wired to be – albeit to different degrees – a reflection of our Creator, who is the Master Planner Himself (Isa 46:10; Jer 29:11; Eph 2:10).

But it also reminds us of parallel truths: that God may direct our plans to come to pass, and that He may also redirect us as he sees fit. We should be okay with it going either way, because God knows best and we aren’t God.

So, if you need to, go ahead: do your research, schedule your recce and prepare your programme overview on Google Docs. But hold these loosely – so that you leave room for God to do what only He can do each moment on the mission field (and let Him surprise you!)

“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” (Pro 19:21)

“What does missions even mean?" If your child's been asking questions like that – Kingdom Crew was made for them!

We believe kids aren't too young to make a difference. At OM Singapore’s Kingdom Crew Mission Camp, children aged 7–12 explore God's heart for the world, pick up practical ways to share the gospel, and step into the adventure of missions right where they are.

We're also so excited to be introducing our camp speaker for the very first time – Amy ()! A mum of 3, mission staff at Bartley Christian Church, and author of children’s books, Amy knows what it means to live missionally and she's passionate about passing that on to the next generation. 💛

What happens when a 75-year-old grandmother finally stops hiding her faith?

Gulnara*, 75, has never told anyone in her community that she is a follower of Jesus. She lives in the Greater Caucasus, where almost no one shares her beliefs. She had always been hesitant to share the gospel, feeling a little inadequate to do so.

One day, she overheard her 17-year-old grandson sharing the gospel over the phone. He was speaking from Matthew 7:7-11 about how the Father gives good gifts to those who seek and ask Him. Her grandson had graduated from OM’s discipleship school for teenagers and was an active disciple-maker. Gulnara felt deeply encouraged.

When he ended the call, she said, “Please send me those verses. I want to share them.” She was part of a WhatsApp group chat for elderly women in the neighbourhood, and she had never before told them that she was a follower of Jesus.

Together, they shared Matthew 7:7-11 in the group chat. Before long, the questions started coming. "What is this?" "Who is Matthew?"

Rather than shrinking back, Gulnara tried to find the best way to answer. She researched, and wrote back that Matthew was one of Jesus’ disciples. She then began to talk about Jesus.

Her sharing wasn’t met with a positive response, and the community rejected Gulnara. Yet, she is glad that she was bold and doesn’t want to keep her faith hidden any longer.

🙏 Pray for Jesus followers in the Greater Caucasus, such as Gulnara and her grandson, who boldly share their faith despite the rejection they face from their communities.
