Building Community, One Step (and One Seed) at a Time

At The Peak Residents’ Network, community building extends beyond networks forged during events.

Whether it's bringing residents on a scenic walk through Coney Island or nurturing young gardeners at the rooftop community garden, The Peak RN is creating opportunities for neighbours of all ages to connect.

During the recent Coney Island Walk, participants were assigned to small groups, creating opportunity for conversations, networking and fostering neighbourhood bonds as they enjoyed Singapore's natural beauty together.
The same spirit of intentional community-building extends to The Peak RN's newest initiative—the Oasis Gardening IG Kids Club. As an extension of its well-loved Gardening Interest Group, the Kids Club welcomes young residents and their families into the gardening community, proving that gardening isn't an activity catered just for adults. With assigned plots, starter kits and guidance from experienced volunteers, children are discovering the joy of growing plants while building friendships and learning alongside their neighbours.

From outdoor adventures to intergenerational gardening, The Peak RN continues to show that a vibrant community flourishes when everyone has a place to belong.

Mi Casa Residents' Network’s (RN) commitment to foster community spirit can be evident in its thoughtful planning engagement of residents through their estate's National Day decorations.

During the Durian Fiesta, the RN invited residents to pen their well-wishes on mini windmills in celebration of the nation's 61st birthday. Over 200 windmills were collected.

Buoyed by this enthusiasm, the RN invited residents back the following day to lend a hand with the estate decorations. Over the course of two to three days, grassroots leaders and residents carefully placed the handwritten windmills beneath lighted solar-powered windmills, allowing the well wishes and decorations to remain visible at night. The windmills bearing residents’ well-wishes for the nation became the decoration’s key focus, forming a sea of red and white along the condominium's façade – a vivid symbol of collective pride and belonging.

During the decoration effort, RN Chairman Mr Vincent Lim prepared and handed out refreshments to residents who had come to help.

RN Vice Chairperson Ms Foo Mun Leng captured the spirit of the effort eloquently, “No contribution is too small. The first step towards sparking meaningful community participation lies in meeting residents where their interests are, and from that common ground, steadily building a foundation of mutual support and a shared willingness to step forward. It is through these small, purposeful acts that a caring, united community is quietly shaped.”

Leading with Heart: Meet the New RN Council (2026–2029)

A new chapter begins for the People's Association Residents' Network (RN) Council as it embarks on its 3rd Term (1 April 2026 – 31 March 2029), led by Chairperson Ms Sylvia Loh, PBM.

Comprising 36 RN leaders from across Singapore, the RN Council serves as a bridge between Residents' Networks on the ground and the wider grassroots community. The Council champions a shared vision of empowering residents, nurturing community ownership, and supporting ground-up initiatives that bring neighbours together.

Each GRC cluster is represented by two RN leaders in the Council, ensuring that ideas, feedback and local experiences from every neighbourhood are heard.

If you are an RN Grassroots Leader with suggestions, innovative ideas or community feedback, your RN Council representatives are here to listen and support you.

Guided by the spirit of "We First", the RN Council aims to help RNs become true community enablers—creating stronger neighbourhoods where residents don't just participate, but take ownership in building caring and connected communities.

Here's to another exciting term of collaboration, innovation and community building!

Mdm Lee Siew Lan from Bedok Bougainvillea RN found strength and purpose in her community after the passing of her husband in 2025. As a dedicated Neighbourhood Kaki volunteer, she takes on simple tasks around her estate—small acts that keep her active, connected, and uplifted. Each completed task comes with a small $2 token of appreciation, but more importantly, it brings meaning and companionship.
Her story reflects what the Neighbourhood Kakis initiative is all about ❤️

We’re encouraged by how this programme has already made a difference:

- Over 1,400 seniors have signed up
- More than 30,000 neighbourhood tasks have been completed

Building on this success, the People’s Association is expanding Neighbourhood Kakis to all 97 constituencies by the end of the year—making it even easier for seniors to stay socially active and meaningfully engaged through simple, flexible tasks. The initiative will also be supported via the PA Community App for greater accessibility.

Let’s continue to expand community participation to build a caring and united SG—one small act at a time 💪

🏘️ *From Community Dream to Reality: The "Lepak Room" Story*

When residents, students, and agencies come together to serve the community, Magic happens! ✨

The Journey: A simple community idea at Boon Lay Meadow-Grove became an incredible 2-year collaboration with NUS Architecture students. Through participatory planning, residents didn't just share their vision — they became co-creators of their own community space.

The Partners involved: 5 dedicated NUS students (Moe, Hnin, Andrew, Rachel & Mei Qi) worked hand-in-hand with RN grassroots leaders, alongside HDB, NAC, and the Town Council.

The Results:

🎨 240 residents painted community canvases showcasing neighbourhood scenes

🎲 A living room with games, sports equipment & life-sized snakes & ladders

🤝 Resident-designed, resident-made, resident-cared space and taken care of by residents who can sign up as mini lepak leaders for the day to use the space

Key Learning for GRLs:

1) Start with listening to the community voice - Let residents lead the vision

2) Build meaningful partnerships - Students brought fresh perspectives while agencies provided support

3) Design for ownership - When residents create it, they care for it

4) Think long-term - 2 years of collaboration created lasting impact

5) The official launch on 1 Feb 26 with Sunday Breakfast Club showed what's possible when we truly design together!

🧧 Quintet Estate Chinese New Year Community Celebration 🧧

The Quintet Neighbourhood Committee (NC) recently hosted a vibrant 新年大团拜 on 1 March 2026 that brought the community together in true festive spirit for the Lunar New Year celebrations.

The event saw excellent participation from residents, who enjoyed a day packed with meaningful activities and traditional celebrations, including:

- Interactive games and activities for all ages
- Professional family portrait sessions
- Traditional Lohei ceremony
- Spectacular lion dance performance
- Delicious finger food and refreshments
- Lucky bags filled with fortune oranges, fortune cookies, and angbaos

Grassroots Adviser, Mayor Alex Yam graced the occasion and delighted residents by personally distributing red packets throughout the event like a God of Fortune (财神爷), bringing smiles and good fortune to everyone he met.

The NC members and community volunteers who stepped forward to help found the day rewarding despite the hard work involved. Witnessing the joy and happiness on residents' faces made every effort worthwhile, embodying the true spirit of community celebration.

*Taste of Mi Casa: Vietnamese Edition*

An initiative brought to life by the Mi Casa Community Volunteers (CVs) together with Mi Casa Residents’ Network (RN), “Taste of Mi Casa” invited residents to learn, participate, and connect through a hands-on culinary experience.

The inaugural session, held at the Clubhouse Private Villa, featured two well-loved Vietnamese dishes, fresh spring rolls and comforting chicken pho. With guidance from a Vietnamese resident volunteer, 30 participants enjoyed an authentic introduction to the flavours and traditions of Vietnamese cuisine.

Residents quickly arranged themselves into cooking, assembling, and plating stations. Teamwork was strong, and the kitchen buzzed with lively conversation, laughter, and the joy of discovering new skills alongside neighbours.

This successful first edition lays the foundation for future cultural culinary exchanges. Supported by the Community Volunteer Grant, CVs in Mi Casa can continue creating meaningful experiences that strengthen bonds and build a deeper sense of belonging in the community.
