BirdLife International Asia

BirdLife International Asia The BirdLife International Partnership in Asia is active in 16 countries through national grassroots membership NGOs and country programmes.

BirdLife International is the world’s largest nature conservation Partnership. Together we are 120 BirdLife Partners worldwide – one per country – and growing. We believe that local people, working for nature but connected nationally and internationally through our global Partnership, are key to achieving conservation. We have over 3 million members and volunteers, allowing us to engage and reach

out to more than 10 million people around the world. Our work focuses on biodiversity conservation for people, and birds are excellent indicators for the natural world, as well as being important in their own right. Rigorous science informed by practical feedback from initiatives on the ground in important sites and habitats enables us to implement successful conservation programmes. We work with and for people - to improve their quality of life alongside, and as a result of, nature conservation. We believe that our actions are providing both practical and sustainable solutions, significantly benefiting nature and people. BirdLife's approach to conservation centres around 4 major pillars:

Saving Species
Conserving sites and habitats
Encouraging ecological sustainability
Empowering people for positive change

Lend your voice to Pak Thale. 📣

In the southern Thailand province of Phetchaburi, along the Gulf of Thailand, thousands of people and birds depend on these thriving wetlands. The proposed development puts these areas at risk of pollution and collisions. Because so many migratory birds rely on this site, it could also disturb the entire East Asian-Australasian Flyway and the people that count on it.

A huge congratulations to Parveen Shaikh for winning the Whitley Award for her work to protect the Endangered Indian Skimmer populations across India! 🥳

Two BirdLife Partners awarded conservation’s ‘Green Oscars’! 🏆

Parveen Shaikh (India, Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) OFFICIAL and Paola Sangolquí (Ecuador, de conservación jocotoco) have each received a 2026 Whitley Award for community-led conservation work protecting threatened birds and habitats. 🌍

Along India’s Chambal River, Parveen’s nest guardian programme has helped protect the Endangered Indian Skimmer by working with local communities to monitor fragile sandbank nests, deter threats and safeguard breeding sites. 🐦

Since 2017, the skimmer population here has grown from around 400 to nearly 1,000 birds. 📈

In Ecuador’s Galápagos Islands, Paola is protecting the Galápagos Petrel by partnering with farmers, landowners and local people to identify hidden nests, protect burrows, control invasive predators and build trust with those who share the land. 🏝️

Together, they show that conservation succeeds when local people are supported to protect the species living alongside them. 🤝

💧Celebrating World Water Day💧

🏔️ The Himalayas hold some of the largest glaciers outside of the two polar ice caps, and because of this they are a crucial source of water for people and wildlife.

Brown-headed Gulls, Black-necked Cranes and Bar-headed Geese are three iconic birds that flourish in these cool Himalayan waters. Read more about them ⬇️
