Sparklers Ministries International is founded by Sylvia Chen, a Singaporean missionary who is passionate about empowering children to realise their fullest potentials.
"When you educate children and believe in them, you empower these kids to
pursue and fulfill their dreams. Every child should live in a proper home and receive good education. Children should not be forced into child labour or other forms of exploitations or abuse (physical/emotional/substance abuse/neglect). " - Sylvia Chen
Sparklers Ministries Tacloban
Sylvia Chen has been providing Children's Ministries training to Sunday School teachers of Tacloban City since Nov 2011. She has run numerous Children's Camps, ministering to hundreds of Filipino children. She speaks some waray waray, their native dialect, and is familiar with the culture of Philippines. In Year 2012, Sylvia started her first free tuition programme with the kids of a village called Alimasag. When Super Typhoon Haiyan struck the city in Nov 2013, Sylvia assisted in providing immediate relief to the villagers of Alimasag. She also provided medical support to many of the children who were infected with various diseases during the aftermath of the Super Typhoon. She was a great help to the rehabilitation process of rebuilding lives and started a new tuition centre in a village called Bay Bay in Year 2015. Till date, Sylvia has served faithfully in Tacloban City, Philippines for 5 years. Sylvia believes that education is the key to unlock the shackles of poverty. She continues to provide free tuition for the children living in slums and takes delight to walk with these children as they grow up. Sparklers Ministries Vietnam
Since March 2015, Sylvia Chen started connecting with a Singaporean missionary who has been doing children ministry in Vietnam for the past 6 years. She did children's program with the lovely kids in an orphanage and with her passion and anointing with God's little ones, she is providing training to children ministry workers serving in Ho Chi Minh.
Sparklers Ministries Nepal
Since her teens, Sylvia Chen has a great burden for Nepal. She was greatly sadden by the 25 April 2015 7.8 mag earthquake that struck the nation. She thank God that after almost 20 years of waiting, she has an opportunity to go to the top of the world for a mission trip in Nov 2015. She was given opportunities to minister in a Nepali church, a cell group and an old folks home. She also visited 3 orphanages and had opportunity to see the ongoing rebuilding works in the villages on a mountain. She is also thankful for being able to do medical missions with a team of Singaporean and Nepalese doctors in a school. However, she is also sadden to see many needs in this country. Living in temporary shelters, the people are still experiencing aftershocks at 5.4 mag and many suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder even after more than 1.5 years. Sylvia is in close contact with her Nepalese friends and desires to do more for Nepal with this opened door.
