We had the first End Polio walk for this rotary year with the new DG Dr Shahul.
Rotary International launched PolioPlus initial in 1985. Rotary became a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) alongside the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Later, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Gavi also became major partners. Billions had been contributed directly by Rotary members and the organisation since 1985. Through these efforts, Polio cases have been reduced by 99.9% globally since 1988. Only Afghanistan and Pakistan remain with endemic wild polio virus circulation as of 2025.
