The Singapore Teachers’ Union hosted the Delegates’ Dialogue with STU Advisor, Dr Wan Rizal on Saturday, 16 May 2026. 📚💬

This valuable session brought delegates and Teachers’ Unions Exco members together for open and constructive discussions on issues that matter deeply to our schools, educators and members. From sharing ground feedback and concerns to exploring ideas and solutions, the dialogue reaffirmed the importance of unity and collaboration.✊🏽

STU General Secretary Mr Mike Thiruman also shared exciting updates on key upcoming initiatives, including the 40th ACT+1 Convention — important milestone as we continue strengthening the voice of educators locally and across the region. 🌏🎉

Together, we listen, engage and move forward as one stronger education fraternity. ❤️

80KM. One journey. Countless moments of solidarity. 💪🏽🚶🏽‍♂️

Heartiest congratulations to Bro Prakash on successfully completing the STU 80th Anniversary Virtual Run 2026! 👏🏽🔥

From every step walked to the final 5KM finish, this journey reflected resilience, friendship, unity and the true spirit of the labour movement. A wonderful example of staying active while celebrating 80 strong years of standing together for educators and workers alike. ✊🏽

Special shoutout to our NTUC Singapore brothers and sisters for the strong camaraderie throughout the journey, and to STU GS Mr Mike Thiruman for personally presenting the finisher tee! 👕🏅

Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan shared that his commitment to the labour movement was influenced in part by his father’s involvement with the Singapore Teachers’ Union many decades ago. Dr Vivian followed his father's footsteps by becoming STU's advisor for two decades, seen in the photo with STU Central Councillors and two of STU's current advisors, Dr Wan Rizal and Mr David Hoe as well as Sister Thana, NTUC Singapore President.

“My father was involved with the Singapore Teachers’ Union many decades ago. He used to share snippets of the pressures and dilemmas that unionists faced during those early and challenging years,” he said.

Heartiest congratulations to Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan on receiving the Labour Movement’s highest May Day award, in recognition of his unwavering efforts in guiding workers through major industrial transitions and championing Singapore’s standing on the global stage.

This well-deserved recognition reflects his dedication to service, leadership and commitment towards supporting workers and strengthening Singapore’s future.
