Project EMP.

Project EMP. Project EMP is a student-driven volunteer organisation in NUS, focusing on helping students in Nonsavanh Primary School.

EMP stands for Empowering lives, Moulding futures, Paying it forward. Project EMP is a new initiative by the National University of Singapore Students’ Union Volunteer Action Committee (NVAC), a wholly student-driven volunteer organisation in NUS. Project EMP has been working closely with Kao Keung Primary School in Champasak Province, Laos. There are 400 students enrolled in the school. Currently

, all the classrooms are situated in a rundown wooden building with no lights and fans and two of the classes are studying in temporary areas with limited facilities. There are two toilet cubicles in the school and only one of them can be used. Project EMP will focus on educational programmes for youths, specifically in promoting hands-on and out-of-classroom learning opportunities for students in Singapore and Laos. Construction of school facilities will also take place over the years to provide students with a more conducive learning environment. This year (2015), Project EMP will be working with a new partner school, Nonsavanh Primary School.
