Grief may take different forms, but remembering a loved one is a journey no one has to walk alone.

Recently, Dover Park Hospice (DPH) brought together caregivers and family members for our annual Rose for Remembrance, to collectively remember and honour 867 patients who have passed on in the past year (April 2025 – March 2026).

Surrounded by DPH Council members, staff and volunteers who had journeyed with them, families engaged in meaningful reflection, shared personal stories, a gentle guided imagery session and a hands-on experiential activity dedicated to keep the memories of their loved ones alive.

At DPH, our care does not end when a patient passes on. We remain committed to walking alongside their families through bereavement, creating safe spaces for remembrance, connection and healing.

That was exactly what our friends at LGT Bank experienced when Dover Park Hospice brought our Palliative Care Human Library to their office for a special “Lunch & Learn” session.

Unlike a traditional library, our "Human Books" aren't found on shelves — they are real people with lived experiences, ready to share honest conversations and fresh perspectives on palliative care.

Our readers "checked out" three inspiring Human Books:
🩺 Healing Beyond Prescription – Dr Martin Lee shared how palliative care goes beyond treating illness to bringing comfort, dignity and meaning to life's final chapter.

🎨 When Art Gives Voice to the Unspoken – Art Therapist Amy Toh revealed how creativity helps patients express emotions, find connection and discover hope when words are no longer enough.

📷 Hidden Gems Behind the Lens – Volunteer Johnny Lam reflected on a decade of capturing precious moments and how simple acts of presence and compassion can make an extraordinary difference.

Together, they demonstrated that palliative care is never the work of one person. It is a collective journey, where healthcare professionals, therapists and volunteers come together to care for patients and families every step of the way.

A heartfelt thank you to LGT Private Banking for opening conversations around a topic many still find difficult to discuss. Every honest question helped to dispel misconceptions and foster knowledge, brings us one step closer to a more informed, compassionate and supportive community.

Because palliative care isn't about adding days to life — it's about adding life to every day.

We are incredibly proud of our Vice Chairman, Ms Angelene Chan, on being conferred The Public Service Medal (Pingat Bakti Masyarakat) as part of the National Day Awards 2026.

Announced in conjunction with Singapore’s 61st National Day, this honour recognises Angelene’s achievements and contributions to public service and the community. We have been very privileged to have her serve on our DPH Council in many roles, lending her guidance, strength and support to our mission of providing compassionate palliative care to patients and their families.

Singapore's 61st birthday was celebrated at Dover Park Hospice with lively performances, shared joy and a strong sense of community as patients, caregivers, volunteers and community partners came together to mark the nation's special day.

A heartfelt thank you to Diamond Group for performing beloved National Day classics across our wards, bringing familiar melodies to patients and families, and to Calvary Baptist Group for delighting our patients with an uplifting ukulele performance. National Day-themed colouring activities and quizzes added to the festive atmosphere, fostering creativity, connection and camaraderie.

One particularly touching scene unfolded when a caregiver requested Majulah Singapura. As voices rose in unison, she was moved to tears — a powerful reminder that our love for Singapore is reflected in the resilience, kindness and care we show one another every day.

Moments like these are made possible through the unwavering support of our volunteers, donors and community partners.

Last Friday, we celebrated the extraordinary hearts behind this calling. Beyond their compassion and dedication, our nurses also surprised us with their incredible hidden talents, filling the celebration with laughter, music, creativity, and joy. It was a beautiful reminder that behind every uniform is a remarkable individual with unique gifts.

Last Thursday (30 July), our friends from Nera Telecommunications generously sponsored a group of 22 patients and caregivers from Dover Park Hospice for their first ever experience at the Oceanarium. From discovering the wonders beneath the sea to enjoying a hearty lunch together at the Asian Food Hall, the day was filled with smiles, conversations, and the occasional shark or manta ray saying hello!

Volunteering comes from the heart — but even the most giving hearts deserve time to recharge.

That is why at Dover Park Hospice, we believe that volunteer appreciation goes beyond saying "thank you". It's about creating opportunities for our volunteers to connect and spend quality time together outside of their regular service.

After all, a strong volunteer community is built not only through giving, but also through friendships and caring for one another. With that in mind, we brought our volunteers on a day out to Kok Fah Technology Farm, where they spent the day exploring the farm and learning about hydroponics, shopping for fresh produce, getting to know one another over a delicious meal together.

Volunteer Agnes Chiew shared, "I'm grateful to the Volunteer Programme team for organising such a meaningful and refreshing outing. It was wonderful to learn something new while sharing stories, laughter and memorable moments with other volunteers."
