A wonderful evening of learning, inspiration, and meaningful connections at our latest LA Friday!

Participants had the opportunity to go behind the scenes of the Singapore Garden Festival (SGF), where our speakers shared their design journeys - from the initial concept and creative process to technical development, construction challenges, and lessons learnt in bringing their award-worthy garden installations to life.

Thank you to our speakers for their candid sharing and to everyone who joined the engaging Q&A session and contributed to the insightful discussions.

The evening also marked the official launch of the SILA Mentorship Programme 2026. It was exciting to announce the mentor-mentee pairings and see participants meeting one another for the first time as they embark on this mentorship journey together.

A heartfelt thank you to all our speakers, mentors, mentees, and participants for making the evening such a success. We look forward to seeing the connections grow and to welcoming everyone again at our next LA Friday!

Landscape architecture is ___.

We're kicking off ROOTED, a new series profiling the people behind the parks, streetscapes, and everyday green spaces you walk through in Singapore. First up: Cathy Hang, Lead Design Landscape Architect & Team Lead at Henning Larsen, whose work includes Lakeside Gardens at Jurong Lake Gardens and the National Orchid Garden.

Swipe through to meet her, then follow along as we uncover more of the people designing Singapore's landscapes.

Comment below: what is landscape architecture to you?

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the SILA SGAF+ Tour: Landscapes in Convergence today!

Despite the heavy rain just before the start of our tour at Bidadari Park, the skies cleared quickly, making for a wonderful afternoon of exploration and learning.

A big thank you to LANDinc SG (Previously known as STX Landscape Architect) for guiding participants through Woodleigh Village & the Heritage Walk, and to Henning Larsen for sharing the design vision behind Bidadari Park. Your insights gave participants a deeper appreciation of how landscape architecture shapes meaningful and resilient places.

We hope everyone enjoyed the tour and left inspired by the stories, design approaches, and landscapes we experienced together.

SILA SGAF+ Tour: Landscapes in Convergence

How does landscape shape the way we live?

As part of Singapore SGAF+ 2026, the Singapore Institute of Landscape Architects (SILA) presents its inaugural SGAF+ tour โ€œLandscapes in Convergenceโ€.

Centred on Bidadari estate, this special guided tour offers a unique opportunity to experience the landscapes bringing together housing, community, and nature as one continuous living environment.

Participants will visit:
โ€ข Woodleigh Village and Heritage Walk, where a connected landscape network brings together movement, community life, and heritage. Mature trees are preserved as a defining framework, shaping spaces for gathering, play, and everyday interaction within a high-density setting.
โ€ข Bidadari Park and Alkaff Lake, a much-loved park anchored by a first-of-its-kind multi-functional stormwater lake, designed to manage heavy rainfall, enhance flood protection for the estate and surrounding areas, and support recreation and biodiversity.

Together, the two sites highlight a shift in how neighbourhoods are designed in Singapore, where landscape is central to how places function, connect, and are lived in over time.

For those familiar with SGAF+ Architours, this programme offers a fresh perspective, shifting the focus beyond buildings to the spaces between them, and to the design decisions that shape everyday experience.

Rather than designing around the site's mature Yellow Rain Trees, the landscape was shaped by them. The preserved trees became the framework for pathways, gathering spaces, boardwalks, play areas, and community plazas, creating a place where history, ecology, and daily life naturally converge.

Join the SILA SGAF+ Tour: Landscapes in Convergence and hear directly from the practitioners behind the project as they share the design thinking that transformed Bidadari into one of Singapore's most distinctive new neighbourhoods.

What if a park could do more than provide green space?

At the heart of Bidadari Estate lies ๐—•๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ถ ๐—ฃ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ธ & ๐—”๐—น๐—ธ๐—ฎ๐—ณ๐—ณ ๐—Ÿ๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ - a landscape that seamlessly combines ecology, climate resilience, and everyday recreation. Home to Singapore's first multi-functional stormwater lake, the park helps manage heavy rainfall, enhances biodiversity, and creates a vibrant community space where people and nature thrive together.

Designed by Henning Larsen, the park retains its original woodlands as a refuge for wildlife while connecting residents to nature through an integrated network of trails, water-sensitive landscapes, and public spaces.

Join the SILA SGAF+ Tour: Landscapes in Convergence for an exclusive practitioner-led visit and discover how landscape architecture shapes a more resilient and liveable city.
