ion in 1975. Our Vision is to be a dynamic student organisation that Transcends, Leads and Serves the Singapore Community at large with our Core Values Solidarity, Empowerment, Professionalism, and Sustainability. Today, NUS TLS is a registered student organisation under the Registrar of Society of Singapore which celebrates the Tamil language and promotes the language in various ways, especially among the young. Our key annual events organised by our directorates in collaboration with many Tamil and Non-Tamil organisations and societies in Singapore include: Sports Spectra, Yutham, Saadhana, Community involvement flagship projects and NUS-Wide Cultural events involving youth. The main focus of STYC 2024 was to engage youths from pre-university and university. The youth delegates took part in well-structured discussions facilitated by trained facilitators. The youth delegates voiced out their opinions, discussed and came up with recommendations on issues pertaining to the Tamil Indian community in Singapore. The opinions and recommendations of the youths are currently being compiled into a ‘Youth Manifesto’ which will then be presented to the relevant organisations such as SINDA, Tamil Language Council (TLC), REACH and Tamil Language Learning and Promotion Committee (TLLPC). NUS TLS is also proud to have staged Sangae Muzhangu 2023, a musical theatre production at the University Cultural Centre on 4th and 5th of August 2023. Being known for its grand scene setting and massive props, Sangae Muzhangu celebrated its 23rd anniversary since its inception in 1987. It drew an audience pool of 3000, making it a successful production on both days; a feat that was achieved for the third time. Sangae Muzhangu 2023 aimed at promoting the Tamil language and culture through theatre as well as serving as an important platform that brings together a large number of NUS students to showcase their talents and calibre. It is a platform for many aspiring, talented actors and dancers to discover and explore their passion, which has led to people pursuing a career in Tamil arts after completing their education. It is also heartening that Sangae Muzhangu 2023 won an award during the NUS Achievement Awards ceremony 2024 (NAA).
