Sometimes, making a difference starts with simply showing up. 💙🌱

For Independent Reserve Singapore, supporting the TTSH Community Fund reflects its belief in building strong systems that people can trust—support systems that restore confidence and offer hope when needed most.

This first collaboration brought together corporate giving and hands-on employee participation. Independent Reserve contributed a generous gift of $5,000 to the General Needy Patients Fund under TTSH Community Fund, helping patients facing financial difficulties access essential medical equipment, interim dialysis and post-discharge support without unnecessary delays to their recovery.

The Independent Reserve team also spent a day working alongside therapists and staff at the TTSH Integrated Care Hub to help build a Therapeutic Garden.

More than a green space, the garden supports horticultural therapy sessions where patients can develop fine motor skills and participate meaningfully in their rehabilitation. The initiative supports TTSH Integrated Care Hub’s vision of creating more therapeutic garden spaces to benefit patients.

The team shared that they were especially inspired by the dedication of TTSH’s therapists and its belief that recovery is more than a medical outcome. It is also about helping patients rebuild their lives and find the strength to move forward.

For 42 years, Professor Low Cheng Hock has walked the halls of Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Joining TTSH in 1984, he has served as Head of Department, Division Chair and Chairman Medical Board. Today, he continues to care for patients as an Emeritus Consultant in the Department of Surgery, while contributing to teaching, training and national patient safety initiatives.

Despite the many roles he has held, one thing has remained unchanged.

“TTSH has a beautiful kampong spirit. We are a family.”

For Prof Low, giving extends beyond caring for patients in the operating theatre or clinic. It is also about supporting patients who need a helping hand beyond medical treatment. For more than 20 years, he has been making monthly contributions to TTSH Community Fund, believing that every contribution, no matter the size, can make a meaningful difference.

Throughout his career, Prof Low says he has learnt not only from his seniors and colleagues, but also from his patients. Those experiences have shaped his belief that giving and volunteerism should be part of the culture of healthcare. He hopes more people will join him in supporting patients in whatever way they can.

Prof Low's impact can also be seen through the generations of healthcare professionals he has mentored, passing on the values of compassion, service and excellence in patient care. The photo accompanying this story was taken with Jia Hao, an NUS medical student, at a welcome dinner for Year 1 medical students, reflecting the meaningful connections he has fostered across generations of healthcare professionals.

For Prof Low, giving is not about the size of the contribution, but about each of us doing what we can. When everyone plays a small part, those acts of kindness come together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their families.

🌟 Celebrating Our TTSH Nurses

Singapore celebrates Nurses’ Day on 1 August, marking the beginning of nursing development in Singapore in 1885.

On this special day, we honour and thank our TTSH nurses for the care and dedication they show our patients every day.

At our Nurses’ Day celebration on 23 July, more than 80 nurses signed up for monthly payroll giving through Caring Beyond Cures, our staff-giving initiative. Their monthly gifts will support the General Needy Patients Fund, helping needy patients receive essential medical equipment and financial assistance.

A big thank you to everyone who joined Caring Beyond Cures for extending your care beyond your daily work. To all our TTSH nurses, Happy Nurses’ Day, and thank you for continuing to make a difference in the lives of our patients! 🫶

In 1844, Mr Tan Tock Seng make a donation to build the first hospital for the poor. His vision was for the hospital to care for the “sick poor of all nations”, ensuring that those in need could receive care regardless of background or circumstance.

For Mr Choo, giving back is a way of honouring his late mother’s legacy.

Despite the hardships she faced, including holding three jobs at times to support the family, his mother continued to support and help others in need, giving generously in her own way.

When she was later cared for at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Mr Choo was touched by the professionalism, dedication and compassion shown to her. Today, he continues her legacy by supporting patients in need.

“My contributions aim to provide similar support to the caregivers at TTSH who dedicate their lives to patient care and support the patients in need. I hope to inspire others touched by similar experiences to contribute to this cycle of giving.”

What does home mean to you?

For many of our patients, getting home is the goal they work towards every day. For Mr Mohamda, it means breathing easier, moving freely and seeing the people he loves.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, he received a CPAP machine and a mobility scooter. Today he manages at home, meeting family and friends.
