Ever wondered what sand can tell you? ๐Ÿชจ๐ŸŒŠ

Through sediment sieving, we break down samples by size to understand how coastlines are shaped - from wave energy to erosion and deposition. Itโ€™s a simple method that reveals a lot about the environment beneath our feet.

Geography, but hands-on ๐ŸŒฟ

๐ŸŒโœจ Where were we last weekโ€ฆ?

From Gili Air (under the waves) ๐ŸŒŠ to Lombok (ocean & outreach) ๐ŸŒฟ, Komodo (dragons & diving) ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿคฟ, Sulawesi (tarsiers to turtles) ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿข, and Batam (culture, coast & canopy) ๐ŸŒด๐Ÿ๏ธ - our team has been all over, taking students to explore and connect with nature in so many different ways.

And this is just Indonesia. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ

No two trips are the same, and thatโ€™s what makes it so special. From marine ecosystems to cultural experiences, we offer a wide variety of adventures to learn, explore, and get hands-on in the field ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’š

Come join us on the next one โœจ

๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’š Happy Earth Day!

From above, itโ€™s clear how incredible our planet really is, rainforests ๐ŸŒณ, coral reefs ๐Ÿชธ, intertidal zones ๐ŸŒŠ, and mangroves ๐ŸŒฑ all working together to protect and support life.

These ecosystems give us so much, itโ€™s up to us to protect them in return.

One planet. Letโ€™s take care of it โœจ

๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’š Connection goes both ways.

Through service, our students visit local schools - painting murals, sharing English lessons, and spending time learning together ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ“š

But itโ€™s not just about giving - itโ€™s about exchange. In return, students are welcomed into the community, experiencing local culture, learning traditional dances, and seeing the world through new perspectives ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐ŸŒฟ

Different backgrounds, shared moments, thatโ€™s where real learning happens โœจ

๐Ÿ“๐ŸŒฟ Whatโ€™s a quadrat?
A quadrat is a simple square frame used by scientists to study nature in a small, defined area.
We can place our large quadrats on the ground in the mangroves, use small quadrats on rocks in coastal ecosystems or canopy cover in the the rainforests, and even use photo quadrats on coral reefs in the ocean!
Using them to count species or measure their percentage cover helps us turn observations into real data so we can monitor ecosystems, understand biodiversity, and make better conservation decisions ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’š
Small square, big impact.

๐ŸŒฟ Meet Maisie - our Junior Field Staff bringing energy, curiosity, and a love for discovery to every trip!

๐Ÿ“ From Portsmouth, England, Maisie studied Marine Biology at Swansea University and has experience across a wide range of marine environments, from rocky shores in Scotland to coral reefs in the Red Sea ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ

Now in her second season with EFT, Maisieโ€™s passion for wildlife is infectious. Whether itโ€™s spotting a fish darting across the reef or a mudskipper hiding in the mangroves, she encourages students to slow down, look closer, and stay curious about the world around them ๐ŸŒฑโœจ

๐ŸŒ™ Sheโ€™s especially in her element leading night walks, using her keen eye and ID skills to bring hidden nocturnal wildlife to life and turn the forest into a whole new world after dark ๐ŸŒŒ

Fun facts about Maisie:
๐Ÿฏ Favourite animal: Tiger
๐Ÿƒ Favourite activity: Rockpooling & wildlife spotting
๐Ÿ’ก What inspires her: Educating the next generation to care for our amazing environment

๐ŸŒฟโœจ Ever wonder what our field staff get up to when theyโ€™re not on tripsโ€ฆ?

Weโ€™re still out in the field! Recently we were in Tioman, learning, caring for our coral restoration project, and checking on our ecosystems ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ’š Did you know from rainforests ๐ŸŒณ and mangroves ๐ŸŒฑ to the rocky shore ๐Ÿชจ, coral reefs ๐Ÿชธ and freshwater ๐Ÿ’ง, the island is home to 5 incredible ecosystems you can join us to explore and research!

Always exploring, always learning ๐ŸŒโœจ

Happy World Planting Day! ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒ

Celebrating today with a little behind the scenes at EFT: where some of our staff are getting their hands dirty growing our own garden ๐ŸŒฟ From planting to harvesting, weโ€™re cultivating fresh ingredients like chillies, spinach and beans to use in our cooking ๐ŸŒถ๏ธโœจ

A small reminder that connecting with nature can start right at home, one plant at a time ๐Ÿ’š

๐ŸŒŠ Meet Fran โ€“ stepping into her new role as Junior Field Staff after completing her internship at EFT!

๐Ÿ“ From Kent, England, Fran studied Marine Biology (BSc) at Bangor University before continuing with an MSc in Marine Conservation at Plymouth University. Sheโ€™s also an SSI Divemaster, taking her diving journey from cold lakes in the UK all the way to the Red Sea, where she guided dives and helped others earn their open and advanced water certifications ๐Ÿคฟ๐ŸŒ

Before joining EFT, Fran worked a variety of roles alongside her studies - from laboratory technician to learning support and even an intern at her local dive shop. That mix of science, wildlife, and teaching is exactly what led her to EFT, where she can combine all those passions while inspiring others to connect with the natural world ๐ŸŒฟโœจ

โœจ Franโ€™s favourite part of EFT? The welcoming team that quickly feels like a second family, along with the chance to explore incredible locations and ecosystems together.

๐Ÿ  Favourite animal: Clownfish
๐Ÿ Favourite food: Pasta (pretty much all kinds!)
