Ever wondered what animal makes these pretty patterns in the sand?
Meet the sand bubbler crab! 🦀
After waiting out the high tide using an air pocket in a hole in the sand, they sift through the damp sand filter feeding on tiny microorganisms living in it, before rolling the discarded sand into balls so they don’t sift the same sand twice!
And actually… the patterns are just a happy coincidence!

🪸 Say hi to Flo, who has joined the team as Junior Field Staff after completing her EFT internship!

📍 Originally from Norfolk, England, Flo studied Zoology at Swansea University and is now in her second season with EFT. She loves spending time outdoors, especially in the ocean whether thats snorkelling, exploring new environments, or looking for wildlife. 🌊🐢

🌏 Flo's favourite part of EFT is getting to work outdoors in incredible places helping students connect with nature and discover more about the world around them surrounded by people that always inspire her. ✨

Fun facts about Flo:

🌊🐢 In honour of World Sea Turtle Day on the 16th, here’s one of our favourite Ecofieldtrips beach games! 💚

Students learn about sea turtle ecology before stepping into the role of a nesting turtle in a race, emerging from the ocean and trying their hand at digging a nest and burying eggs on the beach 🥚🏖️

It’s a fun, hands-on way to discover just how much effort goes into giving the next generation of sea turtles the best chance of survival 🌍✨🐢
