We've been accepted as a host organisation for the Youth Corps Community Internship (YCCI) for Cycle 14. We're looking for two interns to join us for six months — and neither role requires an arts background.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT INTERN (MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS)
Content creation, social media, newsletters, press releases, and community outreach. If you write clearly and think about how things reach people, this role is for you.

A post about Musica Intimae: Intersections, where we dive into love, identity, and community through the lived experiences of inter-ethnic and inter-faith couples in Singapore.

In one of our anti-plays, we explore a story of difference, connection, and belonging. Afiq (Malay, Muslim) and Anqi (Chinese, Buddhist) have been dating for two years since meeting at work. At first, they kept their relationship low-key because they were coworkers in different departments, but since Anqi took a sabbatical to finish a master’s degree, they have been more open about being a couple. Afiq is secretly planning to propose.

While exiting the wedding of Afiq’s relative, the couple run into Afiq’s older cousin by marriage, Zaki (Indian, Muslim). As the oldest male relative of their generation, Zaki feels obligated to advise Afiq, especially since Afiq is an only child whose parents passed away when he was young. Zaki confronts the couple and insists they should break up if Anqi has no immediate plans to convert to Islam. The conversations that continue, amongst the cast and amongst audience members, help remind us that not all tensions are easy to navigate, and that we need patience, understanding and empathy to lead the way.

Ode by Dr. Zechariah Goh

Ode was commissioned by Voices of Singapore, and was premiered under the direction of their conductor as a work to commemorate Singapore's 60th birthday in 2025.

This song is a tribute to the Oriental Pied Hornbill who was thought to be perfectly extinct from Singapore, but later met a comeback about 20 years ago. This song is about resilience.

Oriental pied hornbill (Anthracoceros albirostris)
You sing your song above the trees, you fly away on the summer breeze

You wear your plumage in suit of black and white,
your bill and casque, they shine so bright

Your beauty and its splendour
Your courage and your strength
They filled our world with wonders and dreams

Now spread your wings and fly
To the boundless blue horizons
To heaven and beyond
freed and dignified

You sing your song above the trees, without a care, without dismay

Lullaby 搖籃曲 was commissioned by the National Arts Council of Singapore in 1999, and premiered by Victoria Chorale, conducted by Nelson Kwei.

This piece is performed by Vox Camerata Chamber Singers. The Vox Camerata Chamber Singers is a vocal ensemble that has been pushing the boundaries of choral music in Singapore since 2015. This auditioned group of talented singers specializes in performing challenging art music and commissioned works, with a particular focus on showcasing compositions by local Singaporean composers.

The Chamber Singers serve as a unique platform for both singers and composers to hone their craft. For vocalists, membership requires not only exceptional vocal abilities but also the skill to learn music independently before rehearsals. This commitment to musical excellence is evident in their rigorous audition process, held twice a year, which includes performing a prepared piece, sight-reading, and an interview.

What sets Vox Camerata Chamber Singers apart is their role as a "sandbox" for aspiring choral music composers. The ensemble provides a valuable opportunity for composers to workshop their creations, fostering innovation in the local choral music scene. This collaborative approach aligns with their mission to be the premier platform where local professional musicians and composers can develop their craft in Singapore.

By commissioning and performing new works, particularly those by Singaporean composers, the Chamber Singers contribute significantly to the growth and diversity of contemporary choral music. Their performances not only showcase the group's vocal prowess but also highlight the rich tapestry of local musical talent.

For those seeking to experience the pinnacle of choral artistry in Singapore, Vox Camerata Chamber Singers offers a unique blend of musical excellence, innovative programming, and a commitment to nurturing local talent.
