The committee first started out as the Overseas Expedition Committee (OEC) in 2010, bringing 40 residents on a cycling trip to Desaru, Malaysia and challenging its participants’ limits by travelling over 100km in three days. In 2011, the committee was renamed Touch your Heart Committee(TYH) as it expanded to include community outreach as part of its portfolio. The committee hosted fortnightly visi
ts to Sheng Hong Family Service Centre where more than 80 volunteers befriended the primary school children through games and activities. The year ended on a high note, with a 2-week long overseas community project to Kdei Run Primary School in Siem Reap, Cambodia. 32 participants went on the trip. Besides interacting with the Khmer kids, they also refurnished the school and sought to improve the lives of the children by donating water containers, clothes and slippers. TYH continues to evolve and this year, it has restructured to include a campaign division aimed at initiating public outreach for a common cause. The committee is currently working with the Singapore Health Promotion Board in bringing the “Not-So-Secret-Lives” Campaign to Nanyang Technological University. This project will be followed by a project with Bright Visions Hospital and an overseas project, Project SaFIVEdee to Vientiane, Laos.
