We would like to wish everyone a Happy Chinese New Year ๐ŸŠ as we welcome the Year of the Horse๐Ÿด.

We noticed there are a number of beautiful Seahorse inspired Angpau packet ๐Ÿงง designs this year. So we would like everyone who received or giving our any Seahorse Angpaus, do take a picture of the design and tag us and as part of a global movement for Syngnathid fish creative art.

โœจ A Special Shout-Out to Our Seahorse Namers! โœจ

One of the most meaningful parts of our monitoring trips is seeing participants form a personal connection with the seahorses they encounter. This year, some of those names became very familiar to us! ๐Ÿ’›

Most Sighted Seahorses of the Year:
๐Ÿฅ‡ 1st Place: Xiao Min โ€” named by Chew Jaime (7 sightings since 2024)
๐Ÿฅˆ 2nd Place: Astrid โ€” named by Danial (6 sightings)
๐Ÿฅ‰ 3rd Place (tie):
* Neptune โ€” named by Violet (5 sightings since 2024)
* Ngkalipop โ€” named by Ng Kyle Yii (5 sightings)

Thank you to everyone who joined our trips and gave these seahorses their names. Your curiosity, care, and enthusiasm are what make this project truly special.

โ—Our 2026 schedule is now out.
Join us on an upcoming trip and you might just spot and name a seahorse of your own! ๐Ÿคฉ

See you on the seagrass bed!

[Updated]

The wait is over!

We are excited to share the upcoming 2026 seahorse monitoring schedule!
(Note: There are no trips in Feb, Mar, and Dec)

๐Ÿ“Location: Merambong Seagrass Meadow, Johor
๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธMeeting point: Pendas Jetty, Johor
๐Ÿ’ฒPrice: Rm200/adult, Rm100/child (age 4 to 12)

We will be spotting seahorses for its population assessment. All seahorses spotted will be measured, their health assessed, and tagged as part of the Master Research requirement of the Project Leader, Ms. Wong Jieyi ( ).

This experience is suitable for beginners and families โ€” no swimming or diving required, just a guided walk on the seagrass bed during low tide.

Additionally, if you spot a seahorse on your own, you will get to name it ๐Ÿคฉ
We will also spot other marine creatures, such as pipefish, sea stars, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, stingrays, and many more.

To sign up, fill up via the Google form link provided in the comment section and we will get back to you soonest for confirmation through WhatsApp.

2025 Seahorse Monitoring Yearly Review! โœจ

As we wrap up another incredible year at Merambong Shoal, weโ€™re excited to share what weโ€™ve achieved together! ๐Ÿงก

From tiny sea creatures to curious kids, returning volunteers, passionate students and teachers, corporate groups, families, and first-time explorers, this year has been filled with learning, discovery, and meaningful moments in the seagrass meadow.

A huge thank you to our funders for their continuous support, to our dedicated team for their hard work in every tide and weather, and to every single participant who walked the seagrass bed with us. You are the heart of this project.

Together, weโ€™re not just spotting seahorses, weโ€™re building awareness, nurturing young ocean lovers, and contributing to the conservation of one of Malaysiaโ€™s most unique marine ecosystems. ๐ŸŒฑ

Hereโ€™s to another year of exploration, learning, and protecting the magical world beneath our feet.

See you in 2026! ๐Ÿค—
