Apollo belongs to a rescuer who does not have the resources (neither the time nor money) to care for him... the rescuer reached out to us to let us know that he couldn't p*e at all, and we brought him to the vet.
He has a very swollen prepuce, likely due to trauma such as overgrooming although we're unsure how it even started. It is so swollen that the hole is too small for his p***s to come out for him to p*e.
He has been hospitalised since 8 Jan (firstly at United Vet before we switched to Pet Space) as we try to get his inflammation down and see if the hole will widen. We had actually scheduled PU surgery at Pet Space on 16 Jan but at the 11th hour, Apollo p*ed two puddles of p*e through a slow dribbling.
With Pet Space's Dr Yuemee's blessing, we postponed his surgery and extended his hospitalisation for another week in hopes that with continued medication and expression of p*e, his prepuce hole will widen... we wanted to avoid the PU surgery if possible as Apollo is not young (above 10 at least) and there may complications from the PU surgery.
As the week went by, he continued to p*e without any catheter through the vets' help. But yesterday, he was completely blocked again. Given that the prepuce stricture has worsened, we have decided to go ahead with the surgery on 23 Jan. We are hoping he would not need to do the full PU surgery and an alternative surgery can be done to widen the prepuce hole. But we would have to wait for the specialist's advice.
We want to fight for Apollo because he is the sweetest boy and as with every cat we have cared for, he deserves to be cared for and given a chance to fight. 💔 Amidst all the discomfort and pain, Apollo remains bright, sunny and sweet. All the vets and vet techs love him, and would spend their free time playing with him at the cat ward 😢 they say he's the happiest cat they've seen in the ward.
All along, the vet bills have been paid from our own pockets as we do not have enough funds for the other cats at the shelter. If you're able to help us out, do DM us.
Also, do keep Apollo and this page in mind! We will be doing some fundraising to help with Apollo's vet bills.
