Post-Fire Safety Blitz at Blk 853 Tampines St 83 on 18 Aug 26.

After the recent fire at Blk 853 Tampines St 83 on Sunday, our team jumped into action with a safety blitz to connect with residents and highlight essential home fire safety tips.

Partnering with SCDF, Ville RN, and our CERT volunteers, we organised small, dedicated teams from each group to go door-to-door and engage residents directly.

We shared crucial insights:
• Stay vigilant about fire hazards at home, avoid overloading sockets and never leave charging devices unattended.
• Keep escape routes clear inside your home and along the corridors.
• Refrain from placing objects in hallways, near emergency exits, or blocking safety equipment.
• Ensure emergency gear is accessible, not locked or obstructed.
• Know your evacuation plan and be prepared to act swiftly in case of a fire.

While these tips may seem simple, they are vital and can potentially save lives in an emergency.

A quick and clear escape route can buy precious seconds, and accessible emergency tools help responders act faster.

𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗱-𝗨𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲

The Singapore Police Force has issued new and enhanced Codes of Practice (COPs) under the Online Criminal Harms Act (OCHA) to strengthen protection against scams on online messaging, online conferencing, social media and e-commerce services. Platforms offering Designated Online Services (DOSs) are obliged to put safeguards in place to meet COP requirements.

The safeguards broadly cover:
✅ Stronger safeguards against Government Official Impersonation Scams (GOIS)
✅ Better protection against scam advertisements
✅ Enhanced account security measures
✅ More protection from being contacted by unknown parties

Scammers continue to evolve their tactics, and a significant number of cases still involve scam actors approaching victims through Designated Online Services as first approach platforms. While online services are expected to do more to protect users, members of the public should continue to remain vigilant when interacting online.

Fire Drill Evacuation Exercise 2026
Tampines Central Arcadia RN

On Sunday morning, 16 August 2026, residents, SCDF, and volunteers, including 2 RN volunteers from Ville and Arcadia, CERT, and student volunteers from Pasir Ris Crest Secondary School, gathered at Tampines Block 842B for this important Fire Drill Evacuation Exercise.

With 60 enthusiastic residents taking part, this engaging drill provided a practical opportunity for residents to learn fire safety procedures, from quick evacuation to confidently using a fire extinguisher and key home fire safety tips.

This exercise was not just about procedures; it served as a crucial reminder that staying calm, listening carefully, and acting quickly can genuinely save lives in an emergency.

A heartfelt thank-you to all residents, volunteers, SCDF, and everyone who dedicated their time and effort to make this event a success.

Your active participation strengthens our community's safety and resilience.

Sharing of a fire Incident at 853 Tampines Street 83

Just after 4:58am, a house on Tampines Street 83 faced a surprising challenge when a fire broke out, sparked by charging PMD batteries.

Thanks to the swift response of the SCDF and their effective use of a water jet, the blaze was quickly brought under control. Fortunately, the residents inside were safely evacuated and treated at the hospital for suspected smoke inhalation. As a precaution, police also evacuated around 30 neighboring residents.

This incident is a stark reminder: handling batteries, especially for Power-Assisted Mobility Devices (PMDs), requires care and vigilance.

To keep yourself and loved ones safe during charging, remember:
• Use only original or manufacturer-approved chargers and batteries.
• Never charge overnight or while sleeping.
• Keep chargers away from doors, escape routes, and flammable materials.
• Never leave a charging device unattended for long periods.
• If you notice swelling, excessive heat, a burning smell, smoke, or strange noises, stop using the device immediately and move to a safe location.
• Keep escape routes and hallways clear.
• Ensure everyone in your home knows the emergency exit plan and gathering points.

A few simple safety practices can make a big difference—protecting our families, neighbours, and community.

[Fire at Block 339, Jurong East Avenue 1]

Earlier this morning at about 3:55am, SCDF was alerted to a fire at the abovementioned location.

Upon SCDF's arrival, black smoke was emitting from the living room of a unit on the third floor. Firefighters conducted forcible entry into the unit. The fire, which involved items in the living room, was extinguished with one water jet.

During the firefighting operation, firefighters found an unresponsive person in the living room. The person was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic.

About 50 residents from the affected block were evacuated by the Police and SCDF as a precaution.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Watch out for GST Voucher (GSTV) scams

Scammers have been exploiting GSTV payouts as bait to trick victims.

In this variant, scammers impersonate government officials and send phishing messages containing malicious links, claiming that victims are eligible for GSTV payouts.

Victims are prompted to enter their personal details. Scammers then use the compromised information to take over their Telegram accounts, which are subsequently used to send phishing links to their contacts or add them to fake investment scheme groups.

Eligible citizens who have previously signed up for the GSTV scheme will automatically receive the payments.
