Earlier this May, 50 residents gathered at Ping An Green RN for the pilot of the Community Mobile Kitchen Initiative, in partnership with Allspice Institute.
This ground-up initiative was born from a series of community ideation sessions led by Our Kampong Chai Chee Community Innovation Taskforce – a Sparks initiative launched by PA last year, to address food-related challenges and fostering sustainability within the division.
During the event, 4 volunteers from Allspice Institute generously contributed their culinary expertise to support a live cooking demo session alongside celebrity singer-actress Melissa Sidek. Residents learnt how to prepare nasi ulam and sambal kangkong using rescued vegetables, while picking up healthy cooking tips, heritage knowledge, and practical ways to reduce food waste.
One resident, Mdm Huang, shared: “The cooking demo is fun and engaging. I will be trying out the recipe at home to cook my own nasi ulam!”
Clarence, CEO of Allspice Institute, also shared: “Grateful to be part of a wonderful initiative and team!”
The event concluded with the distribution of rescued vegetables to participants, reinforcing the importance of sustainability, nutrition awareness, and community care.
