🏊♂️ Pool Safety Starts with Prevention 🏊♀️
We echo the joint efforts of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), National Environment Agency (NEA), Sport Singapore, and the Swimming Pools & Aquatic Association (Singapore) (SPAA) in raising awareness of the importance of implementing preventive measures against pool suction entrapment.
Did you know? Pool suction entrapment is a serious hazard that can cause severe injury or even be fatal if proper safety measures are not in place.
✅ Key Measures to Prevent Pool Entrapment:
🔹 Design and/or configure circulation system to include multiple main drains to eliminate a single source of suction.
🔹 Install a Safety Vacuum Release System (SVRS) to automatically relieve dangerous suction forces during an emergency.
🔹 Use approved anti-vortex grates and immediately close the pool if any drain cover is damaged or missing.
🔹 Locate and clearly label emergency power shut-off switches near the pool for rapid response when required.
⚠️ Premises Owners have a responsibility to ensure their facilities do not pose injury risks to users. Regular inspections, maintenance, and compliance with safety standards can save lives.
