🏊‍♂️ Pool Safety Starts with Prevention 🏊‍♀️

We echo the joint efforts of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), National Environment Agency (NEA), Sport Singapore, and the Swimming Pools & Aquatic Association (Singapore) (SPAA) in raising awareness of the importance of implementing preventive measures against pool suction entrapment.

Did you know? Pool suction entrapment is a serious hazard that can cause severe injury or even be fatal if proper safety measures are not in place.

✅ Key Measures to Prevent Pool Entrapment:
🔹 Design and/or configure circulation system to include multiple main drains to eliminate a single source of suction.
🔹 Install a Safety Vacuum Release System (SVRS) to automatically relieve dangerous suction forces during an emergency.
🔹 Use approved anti-vortex grates and immediately close the pool if any drain cover is damaged or missing.
🔹 Locate and clearly label emergency power shut-off switches near the pool for rapid response when required.

⚠️ Premises Owners have a responsibility to ensure their facilities do not pose injury risks to users. Regular inspections, maintenance, and compliance with safety standards can save lives.

📖 For more information, refer to Singapore Standard SS 556 – Code of Practice for the Design and Management of Aquatic Facilities.

Let's work together to create safer aquatic environments for everyone.

Following the recent article published by The Straits Times on 17 May 2026 titled “Condo owners may lose their apartment for owing maintenance fees”, a timely reminder to strata titled owners on the importance of paying maintenance contributions promptly.

Maintenance contributions are essential for the upkeep, safety, and smooth operations of the development. Delayed or non-payment may result in late payment interest, recovery costs, legal expenses, and enforcement actions by the MCST.

Under the Building (Strata Management) Act framework, MCST has the power to force the sale of a unit to recover money owed.

All owners are encouraged to:
✔ Pay contributions on time
✔ Communicate early with the Managing Agent or MCST if facing financial difficulties
✔ Keep updated with notices and payment reminders
✔ Understand that timely contributions help maintain the value and livability of the estate for everyone

A financially healthy MCST benefits the entire community and ensures essential services and maintenance works can continue without disruption.

Breaking out of the classroom and into real-world learning 🚀

For the first time, ASM conducted a CPD course beyond the traditional classroom setting — and what an experience it was. A big thank you to Nippon Paint Singapore for generously hosting an exclusive plant tour, offering participants a rare behind-the-scenes look at paint production.

From raw materials to precise colour tuning and textured coatings, attendees gained valuable insights into how paints are developed to meet diverse consumer needs. The session also covered a comprehensive introduction to various paint products and their suitability across different surfaces — bridging theory with practical application.

Adding further value, Nippon Paint shared common paint defects encountered on-site and the appropriate rectification methods, equipping participants with knowledge that can be directly applied in their day-to-day operations.

The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with many attendees expressing strong interest in more of such experiential learning opportunities to deepen their product knowledge.

ASM remains committed to enhancing professional development through meaningful, hands-on experiences — and this is just the beginning.

From 20 to 22 April 2026, ASM’s President Andrew Lioe, Vice President Andy Lim, and Committee Member Derek Lim represented the association at the SCA Australasia Conference 2026 in Adelaide, organised by Strata Community Association.

Over three full days, the team participated in insightful conference sessions and valuable networking opportunities, gaining fresh perspectives on strata management practices and reconnecting with our SCA partners across the region.

They also had the honour of gracing the Awards Gala, where prestigious awards were presented to members of the strata community in recognition of their commitment and contributions towards elevating the industry.

As they begin their journey home today, we wish them safe travels and look forward to their renewed energy and insights to continue leading ASM forward and strengthening the strata community in Singapore.

Association of Strata Managers (ASM) has partnered with Motion Picture Licensing Company (MPLC) to launch this educational campaign aimed at raising awareness of copyright compliance within condominiums and strata-managed properties.

As audiovisual content is increasingly used in common facilities and community programmes, ensuring alignment with Singapore’s Copyright Act is essential, particularly where content is communicated beyond the private dwelling.

This is a compliance‑focused initiative: the objective is to help our members meet their legal obligations, reduce operational and reputational risk, and avoid unintentional violations.

By way of background, MPLC is a registered Collective Management Organisation (CMO) with IPOS, and they work across all industries—including condominiums—to make copyright compliance simple and hassle-free.
