The pest management sector was strongly represented at the Facilities Management Experts Summit (FMES) 2026 (31 Jul 2026).

At the summit, Mr Clement Tan, President of the Singapore Pest Management Association (SPMA), joined an insightful panel discussion on the critical role of Trade Associations and Chambers (TACs) in driving a unified Built Environment.

Under the event’s theme of “One Ecosystem, Symbiotic Outcomes,” the discussion focused on how TACs foster industry capabilities, uplift standards, and bridge service providers, buyers, and facility managers to work toward shared, value-driven goals rather than traditional, headcount-based models.

It was also a fantastic occasion to celebrate industry excellence, with notable recognitions awarded in the pest management category:

Rentokil Initial – Best Partner (Pest Control)

OCS – Best Partner (Pest Control) Excellence

Absolve Pest Control – Best Partner (Pest Control) Merit Award

Heartiest congratulations to all the award recipients! Their dedication to service quality and continuous innovation sets a high benchmark for the entire industry.

Kudos to SIFMA for organizing a summit that reinforces the power of collaboration across Singapore’s Built Environment ecosystem.

On 30 July 2026, SPMA President Mr Clement Tan represented the industry at the official launch of the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment’s (MSE) National Adaptation Conversations in Sentosa. The inaugural dialogue, led by Minister Grace Fu, brought together over 100 leaders from government, business, and civil society to gather sectoral feedback that will shape Singapore’s first National Adaptation Plan (NAP), scheduled for publication in 2027.

The engagement session outlined national strategies addressing immediate threats to public health, urban liveability, and infrastructure resilience.

To align with national adaptation goals, SPMA highlighted the need for the pest management industry to pivot toward predictive, climate-resilient vector control strategies alongside public health agencies. Additionally, the dialogue addressed operational heat stress for field technicians, emphasizing the necessity of industry-wide heat adaptation protocols, including lighter, breathable uniforms, modified work-rest cycles, and enhanced hydration measures for technicians operating in high-humidity outdoor environments.

The FAOPMA Pest Summit 2026 took place from 15 to 17 July 2026 at the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC) in Auckland, New Zealand. Our SPMA Vice President, Bavani Palanivellu attended the FAOPMA AGM in New Zealand after being elected as the Honorary Treasurer last year.

With the theme FutureProof: Smarter Pest Solutions for a Rapidly Changing World, the three-day summit brought together approximately 700 delegates from over 20 countries, including pest management professionals, industry experts and business leaders. The event also achieved sold-out exhibitor slots, demonstrating strong industry interest and support.

The summit featured industry presentations, panel discussions, hands-on workshops and a dynamic trade exhibition, with key discussions covering technology, sustainability, climate impacts, innovation and regulatory change. These activities provided valuable opportunities for learning, knowledge sharing, networking and collaboration.

The next FAOPMA event will be held in Manila, Philippines from July 20-23. We will share more exciting news regarding the next convention soon! Stay tuned.

On 15 July 2026, it was reported in the news that the Progressive Wage Model will expand to cover about 1,800 workers in the pest management sector, according to tripartite partners.

Straits Times: https://www.straitstimes.com/business/pest-management-workers-to-benefit-from-pay-raise-under-progressive-wage-model

CNA: https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/pest-management-workers-progressive-wage-model-expand-6254856

The move, which is an expansion of the Progressive Wage Model (PWM) for the pest management sector, will include licensed vector-control technicians and workers.

The Tripartite Cluster for Pest Management (TCPM) – comprising representatives from industry associations, unions and government agencies – is being set up to develop and oversee the implementation of the PWM, to ensure that employers pay workers in line with their skills, productivity and work performance.

SPMA has submitted its council representative details to MOM for the necessary background clearances and expects the TCPM to be formed some time in October or November this year.

Pest management is the 10th sector to be covered by the model, which implements structured wage increases tied to skills and productivity enhancement.

02/07/2026

The current dengue situation requires heightened vigilance and prompt action from all members to strengthen dengue control measures across the premises and sectors under your purview.

As of mid-June 2026, dengue cases have increased for four consecutive weeks. A total of 119 cases were reported in the week ending 13 June 2026, bringing the cumulative number of cases in 2026 to 938. The rising weekly case count is a clear indication that immediate action is needed. If this trend is not contained, there is a risk of a further increase in dengue cases over the coming weeks.

As of 12 June 2026, there are four active red dengue clusters with 10 or more cases, mainly concentrated in the Seletar-Serangoon and Yio Chu Kang divisions. Of particular concern is the Countryside Road / Lentor Avenue / Lentor Terrace / Lentor Loop (Bullion Park) cluster, which has been growing rapidly at an average rate of 1.77 cases per day between eWeeks 22 and 23.

Members with assets located within or near these clusters should treat the situation as an immediate priority. Mosquito control efforts should be intensified without delay, with strong emphasis on source reduction, housekeeping, and the removal of potential mosquito breeding habitats.

Given the increase in cases and the heightened public health risk, all members are urged to prepare or review their dengue outbreak response plans. Where such plans have already been activated, members should ensure that they are sustained, updated, and adjusted according to newly identified clusters and changing ground conditions.

Members should also work closely with relevant stakeholders, including clients, facility managers, managing agents, town councils, contractors, and site personnel, to ensure that dengue prevention measures are carried out thoroughly and consistently across all premises under their charge.

Members are encouraged to report any significant findings, operational challenges, or areas requiring further attention through the appropriate channels, so that issues can be surfaced and addressed promptly.

We thank all members for your continued vigilance and strongly urge everyone to take swift and collective action to help stem ongoing dengue transmission before the situation escalates further.
