What a wonderful weekend back together at our kampung!

We spent our weekend tending to our land—planting, making compost, pruning trees, greening our landscape, repairing bicycles, woodworking, and welcoming visitors to our site. Every effort contributed to the growth and care of our shared space.

It was also especially heartening to reflect together on how much our new site has grown and how each person has contributed in their own unique way. A special thank you to Chef Haiyen and her amazing team of volunteers for preparing a hearty meal that brought us together. The conversations, laughter, and fellowship shared around the table made our time at the kampung especially precious.

Come join us for Balik Kampung every Saturday from 9am–12pm. We’d love to welcome you!

Did you know that GUI has some new residents lately? They are honey bees that have made their home at our new site. It has been an exciting time watching them forage in the mornings as they collect pollen from our purslane flowers. 💚

We’ve also enjoyed sharing with visitors how bees play a vital role in our ecosystem through pollination, helping flowers, fruits, and vegetables grow and thrive and how we can coexist with them respectfully.

If you would love to learn more about bees, we would be delighted to have you join our first Classroom Series this weekend: The Road Less Travelled by our valued education partner, Lesster Leow, founder of Little Honey Man and creator of Honey for Harmony.

Join us on 30 May 2026, from 1.30pm–3.00pm at the GUI Training Room to learn about his beekeeping journey, the basics of responsible bee care, and how he has used beekeeping education to promote environmental awareness and create meaningful social impact.

Happy Midweek! ☕️🤍

We are so grateful to our amazing community and dear volunteers for helping to bring our little GUI café to life : 等一等咖啡, also known as Chapalang Café.

What started as a simple initiative by our dear volunteer Ethan, who lovingly made coffee for volunteers during their rest breaks, slowly blossomed into a cosy mini café serving not only espresso, latte and cappuccino, but also comforting drinks like matcha oat milk, teh tarik, chocolate oat milk and more.

Last Saturday’s cold and rainy weather made every warm cup feel extra special, and our hearts were warmed even more by the beautiful fellowship shared around the café space.

Thank you to our wonderful community, volunteers and staff for creating such a welcoming space week after week — for brewing fresh coffee, lending your hands and hearts, and making this little café possible.

Do drop by on Saturdays when you can to support our community café. We’d love to see you there 🤎

🥬 𝑭𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝑾𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑳𝒐𝒗𝒆 🥬

We were so happy to welcome volunteers from UBS and Wood Mackenzie to our Food With Love CSR programme over the past few weeks! 🌱💚
Through their time, energy, and care, both teams supported Ground-Up Initiative (GUI) in our mission to reconnect people with nature, community, and self. Their participation also helped sustain GUI’s daily operations and community work.

One especially meaningful part of the experience was seeing the teams choose to donate their harvest of lovingly grown, chemical-free produce to beneficiaries of their choice — sharing the fruits of their labour with the wider community and spreading kindness beyond the farm.
Thank you once again for growing with us, getting your hands in the soil, and giving back in such a heartfelt way. 🌿

We are grateful to be part of a special collaboration with .sg and to give transit assets a “new lease of life”. 💚 They are currently running an auction featuring decommissioned parts from the former rolling stock C810 LRV of the Sengkang-Punggol LRT.

GUI has graciously sponsored a decommissioned 2-seater LRT seat, integrated into a frame made from reclaimed pine wood, put together with the hands of our wonderful craft team and volunteers from Touchwood. This unit includes a custom laser printed plaque featuring the original Train ID information. Thank you once again to our Touchwood team, HeartBid and LTA for this amazing collaboration. 💚

If you would like to own a piece of Singapore’s transport history, you can place your bid here.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the team from Cora who show up faithfully every morning. 💛 Thank you for supporting our space through your reliable waste management, helping us clear what we cannot recycle, and keeping our new site clean and welcoming.

Cora Environment is a purpose-driven sustainable waste management company that rethinks waste. Inspired by the words “collaboration” and “heart,” the name reflects a commitment to putting people, purpose, and planet at the core of what they do.

Your quiet dedication, kindness and hard work are greatly valued by all of us at Ground-Up Initiative. Thank you for the important role you play in our community. 💛

🥬 𝑺𝒕𝒐𝒑 𝑭𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝑾𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆 𝑫𝒂𝒚 🥬

Food waste doesn’t start in the bin, it begins much earlier, when we lose touch with where our food comes from, who grew it, and the care it takes to bring it to our table. When that connection fades, food becomes just another product — easy to overlook, easy to replace, and easy to waste.

That’s why we love the initiative behind — a global movement by that brings people together to cook with ingredients that would otherwise be thrown away.

Last weekend, at GUI we were grateful to be part of this movement in . With rescued fruits and vegetables from our friends , the community came together to salvage, cook and share meals with over a hundred people in our kampung. What couldn’t be consumed didn’t go to waste either — our volunteers tenderly returned them to the soil by turning these into nutrient-rich compost.

It was a simple yet meaningful way to come together, work with one another, and be reminded of how much care & effort goes into the food we eat.

Each of us can make a difference in small ways:
• Try to use what’s already in your fridge
• Order only what you can finish
• Take away unfinished food when dining out
• Be open to choosing imperfect fruits and vegetables

Let’s look out for one another and the planet by taking conscious steps to reduce food waste—not just on Stop Food Waste Day, but Every Single Day!
