Mosquitoes remain a major public health challenge across Asia and the Pacific. As the malaria landscape changes, outdoor transmission, insecticide resistance and environmental change are creating new challenges for vector control. 🌿

At the same time, innovation is opening new possibilities. 🔬 But staying ahead will require strong surveillance, continued investment in entomology and the capacity to understand how mosquito populations and behaviours are changing. 🧪📊

Most importantly, the region’s greatest asset is its country experience — the knowledge, innovation and lessons generated by malaria programmes across Asia and the Pacific. 🤝🌏

Today, APMEN launches its World Mosquito Day 2026 campaign, "From Mosquitoes to Malaria Elimination: Science, Innovation and Action.”

To open the campaign, we would like to share a simple message on why World Mosquito Day matters.

“World Mosquito Day reminds us that understanding the mosquito is key to defeating malaria.”

The Asia-Pacific has made remarkable progress towards malaria elimination, but sustaining these gains will require stronger surveillance and entomology, sustained investment, innovation, and regional collaboration to tackle evolving challenges.

Over the coming days, APMEN will bring together expert voices, country perspectives and emerging innovations to explore how we can strengthen mosquito control and advance malaria elimination across the region. 🌏
