Gold is down a net ~USD 30 at time of writing, narrowly on track to resume its broader downtrend despite a mid-week post-FOMC rebound. Singapore dealers continued to observe “quiet” market conditions this week, prompting some to narrow their spread, Hong Kong dealers reported similar observations, noting that a mid-week rebound in gold prices further weighed on physical demand. As Singapore builds up market infrastructure to deepen its position as a trusted gold trading centre, the institutions that underpin confidence in physical gold – quality, authenticity, secure custody and reliable liquidity – become even more important.

Institutions across the precious metals ecosystem are reassessing the roles they play globally and within Asia. For The Singapore Mint, this is not a new entry into gold, but the continuation of a legacy shaped by the nation’s monetary history and precious metals trade.
