A special throwback to our Active Ageing Carnival in August!

This meaningful event brought together 248 seniors to celebrate active ageing, build connections and strengthen community spirit.

With the support of our 53 dedicated volunteers and students from Jing Shan Primary School, seniors enjoyed an exciting line-up of stage and ukulele performances, fun games and engaging activities.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our partners - NHG Health, TOUCH Community Services CREST team, and Ang Mo Kio South Neighbourhood Police Centre for sharing valuable services and resources with our seniors.

A special shout-out to Jing Shan Primary School for providing the event venue and helping us create meaningful intergenerational experiences.

Thank you to everyone who made the carnival such a joyful and memorable celebration!

Our seniors picked up a new instrument and a new way to give back.

Through The Esplanade Co Ltd’s initiative, 27 seniors learned to play the angklung (a traditional Indonesian musical instrument made from bamboo tubes) from 6 August till 10 September and performed for patients and staff at Ren Ci Nursing Home.

Proud of our seniors for learning, connecting, and sharing their music with the community.

They put up an amazing performance and emerged with the following results:

Improving the cognitive skills and strengthening social connections are a vital part of active ageing. Through the Active Neighbour programme conducted by Health Tech twice a month at our Blk 573 Ang Mo Kio Ave 3 satellite centre, our seniors get to participate in a variety of brain-training games, both individually as well as in groups to foster more social interaction. They are also encouraged to continue playing the games at home to reinforce learning while staying mentally active.

We recently brought 116 seniors to watch the popular Chinese movie “Dear You” across 3 screening sessions, including 2 in Teochew at Golden Village Junction 8.

Many of them were moved to tears because the storyline of the movie resonated deeply, reminding them of the hardships endured by the earlier generation who had to migrate in search for a better life. We are glad that it was a meaningful and nostalgic outing for many of our seniors!

On 2 July, 72 of our seniors visited “Echoes of the Hawker”- a cultural and heritage initiative designed to celebrate the nation’s rich hawker heritage through SG Culture Pass.

Besides a guided tour of the hawker experience and high-tea style Tingkat lunch featuring local favourites, the seniors also participated in various fun activities like a masterclass learning to make their own popiah, and creating their own cultural sand art.

It is great to see the seniors enjoying such excursion because they are able to experience a wide range of activities that they otherwise might not be able to go on their own.

We were delighted to welcome 19 participants from the Young Leaders and Changemakers Summer Camp by Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy Executive Education for a learning journey on Singapore’s ageing landscape on 30 June.

They visited our active ageing centre at Cheng San, along with our community garden and thrift shop-The Barn@AMK where they learned more about the ways we support and connect with our seniors and community.

It was a heartwarming opportunity to share our work, exchange perspectives, and spend meaningful time with the enthusiastic young people.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mums out there!

20 of our seniors celebrated Mother’s Day in advance with a craft activity learning how to make flowers out of pipe cleaners. We would also like to thank our volunteer Mdm Soh, who regularly comes by our centre to conduct various craft sessions that our seniors enjoy participating in.
