What if migrant domestic workers in Singapore had a way to spend their off day?

A rest day is an important time for many migrant domestic workers (MDWs) in Singapore.

It is a day to take a break, relax & recharge after a week of work.
However, spending the day outside can sometimes be challenging, especially when facing Singapore’s hot weather or sudden rain. Having a safe & comfortable place to rest, connect with others & take part in meaningful activities can make the day more enjoyable.

Through Care Sisters, MDWs have access to a welcoming space where they can spend their rest day comfortably while joining activities, meeting new people & enjoying meaningful experiences together.

For many members, discovering Care Sisters started by seeing their friends take part. After joining themselves, they realised it was a safe space where they could relax, connect with others & make better use of their time off.

The experience was so positive that many members began inviting their friends & family members to join Care Sisters too. They wanted others to discover the same opportunity to spend their rest day in a safe & meaningful environment.

Care Sisters provides a space where MDWs can step away from the challenges of daily life, enjoy their time off & build positive connections in Singapore.

A simple invitation can help someone discover a new experience.

To all migrant domestic workers: your rest day is yours & we hope it can be a day filled with comfort, safety, connection & meaningful moments.

For employers, Care Sisters provides a safe & positive environment where your migrant domestic worker can spend their rest day, surrounded by meaningful activities & supportive friendships.

They joined as members. Now, they are helping other sisters discover Care Sisters too.

For many migrant domestic workers (MDWs), moving to Singapore means starting a new chapter away from their families, familiar surroundings & support networks.
While adapting to life here, many MDWs also look for opportunities to meet positive influences, build healthy friendships & find meaningful ways to spend their time outside of work.

Through Care Sisters, some MDWs discover a space where they can connect with others who understand their experiences. These friendships can provide encouragement, support & a sense of comfort while living away from home.
For some members, these connections become so meaningful that they want to help others experience the same support. They reach out to other MDWs, introduce them to Care Sisters & encourage them to take part in activities.

When speaking to new sisters, volunteers often meet MDWs who are unsure about joining because they do not know what Care Sisters is about. Volunteers help explain that Care Sisters activities are free & open to all MDWs who would like to participate. They share their own experiences & show others that these opportunities are a way to meet new people, form meaningful friendships & be part of something positive.

For these volunteers, the most rewarding moment is seeing another sister take the first step, join an activity & discover new friendships that can bring encouragement during their journey in Singapore.

Care Sisters allows MDWs to not only receive support, but also become the ones who welcome & encourage others.

For employers, Care Sisters provides a meaningful way for your migrant domestic worker to spend their rest day, surrounded by positive friendships, learning opportunities & a supportive environment.

What is Care Sisters, & why are migrant domestic workers joining this community?

For many migrant domestic workers (MDWs) in Singapore, being away from home can feel lonely & stressful.

Care Sisters was created to provide a safe space where MDWs can meet new friends, share experiences, learn new skills & support one another through their journey in Singapore.

This peer support network, managed by the Alliance of Domestic Employees Outreach (ADEO) in partnership with the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), provides mental wellbeing support for migrant domestic workers. The community has grown from about 180 helpers in 2022 to around 1,000 members today.

Through Care Sisters, members from Myanmar, Indonesia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka & many other countries come together to connect, encourage one another & build friendships.

Care Sisters is about community.
It is about friendship.
It is about sisters supporting sisters.

Why are domestic workers in Singapore choosing to spend their off day doing "this" instead of resting?

Sunday is a precious day for many migrant domestic workers (MDWs) in Singapore.

It is a day to rest, meet friends, enjoy personal time, and be part of a community.

For many Care Sisters, Sunday has also become a meaningful time to connect with other MDWs, encourage one another, and take part in activities that support friendship, mental wellbeing, confidence, and awareness of useful resources.

Care Sisters is an initiative by Ministry of Manpower, managed by the Alliance of Domestic Employees Outreach (ADEO). Through this initiative, MDWs from different countries and backgrounds come together as volunteers and friends. They share experiences, build supportive relationships, and remind one another that they are not alone.

Recent gatherings have brought together sisters from the Philippines, Indonesia, Nepal, India, Myanmar and more. Whether through celebrations, peer support sessions, outreach, or wellbeing activities, Care Sisters continues to create a warm space where MDWs can feel seen, supported, and valued beyond their work.

Care Sisters is about community.
It is about friendship.
It is about encouragement.
It is about sisters supporting sisters.

To all MDWs: your rest day is yours, and we hope it can be a day that brings you joy, strength, and meaningful connection.

Event: Pongal Celebration & Soft Launch of Hope Village@KBRC - Programme for MDWs only
Date: 18-Jan 2026, Sunday
Time: 12-3pm (Please note that this is a designated programme timing for the MDWs)
Venue: Hope Village @ Kaki Bukit Recreation Centre, Community Hall
Entrance point: Please use the MAIN entrance (carpark gantry)

Here is the brief tentative programme:
1130am: Open for registration for event
12pm: Health Check-Up, Games/Karaoke in Community Hall, Chillax with Friends (No chairs set-up)
1.30pm: Opening Dance Performances
1.45pm: Zumba
2.05pm: Tele-Match games
2.45pm: Closing Dance
3pm: Clearing up the Hall, preparing to join the rest of the event at Hope Village till 8pm!

What to do next
- If you have not registered as a Hope Village member, please do so at https://hopevillage.sg/register

Food matters
- 150 Bento will be provided from 12pm onwards, first come first serve, 1 per registered MDW.
- You are free to bring your own food, if you like too. There is a food court in KBRC and minimart too.
- Do bring your picnic mat if you have!

Programme and Activities
- You will be welcomed with small group games, karaoke and tele-match games.
- Dance performances and Zumba-along with our fellow ADEO talents.
- More information on health check-up will be provided later.

Prizes
- Cash Prizes up to $1000 to be won! (Yes! You may be the blessed winner for this!)
