๐ŸŒŠ Inclusive Beach Safety Exposure 2026 โ€” And That's a Wrap! ๐ŸŒŠ

What a morning at Palawan Beach, Sentosa! We are absolutely thrilled to have completed the second annual run of our Inclusive Beach Safety Exposure, and the smiles on every participant's face said it all. ๐Ÿฅน

This year, we welcomed 8 participants with diverse abilities โ€” and were backed by an incredible team of almost 30 dedicated volunteers who gave their time, energy, and heart to make every moment count. ๐Ÿ’›

A highlight of this year's run was a very special addition โ€” 2x WaterWheelsยฎ floating beach wheelchairs, generously loaned to us by Sentosa Singapore ๐Ÿ™. These remarkable wheelchairs allowed participants who are physically challenged to do something many may never have experienced before: enter the sea. Seeing this come to life was nothing short of extraordinary, and we are deeply grateful to Sentosa Singapore for making it possible.

From water safety skills to open water discovery, every activity was designed to meet each participant where they are โ€” at their own pace, in their own way, in a space where everyone is comfortable to at.

To our volunteers โ€” you are the heartbeat of this event. Thank you for showing up, for going the extra mile, and for making this an experience our participants and their families will carry with them long after the sand is off their feet. ๐Ÿค

This is only the beginning. We look forward to seeing you at Inclusive Beach Safety Exposure 2027. ๐ŸŒŸ

It is with deep sorrow that we acknowledge the tragic conclusion to the search operation at Kallang River โ€” the body of a 13-year-old boy has been recovered, following a suspected drowning incident on 25 Feb 2026.

To his family and loved ones, and to his friends who were present that day โ€” we grieve with you. No words can ease the pain of this loss, and our heartfelt condolences go out to all who knew and loved him.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and all emergency responders who conducted the search operation with dedication and professionalism during this difficult time.

โš ๏ธ This tragedy is a painful reminder โ€” inland rivers and canals are not safe for recreational activities.

Singapore's rivers and canals may appear still and harmless, but they carry serious, hidden dangers:

๐Ÿ”ด Deceptive undercurrents โ€” Water flow beneath the surface can be far stronger than it appears, particularly after rainfall.
๐Ÿ”ด Unstable and slippery banks โ€” Riverbanks can give way suddenly, especially when leaning or reaching over the edge.
๐Ÿ”ด Poor underwater visibility โ€” Murky water conceals submerged hazards and makes search and rescue operations extremely difficult.
๐Ÿ”ด No lifeguard presence โ€” Unlike public pools and beaches, rivers and canals have no safety personnel on standby.
๐Ÿ”ด Rapid currents โ€” Even physically fit individuals can be overcome by river water flow within seconds.

๐Ÿ’™ Water safety around inland waterways โ€” what everyone should know:
โœ… Never put yourself along the edge of rivers, canals, or drains
โœ… Always supervise children near any body of water, no matter how calm it looks
โœ… In an emergency, call 995 immediately
โœ… Use a rope, branch, or floatable object to assist without entering the water yourself

This incident is a heartbreaking loss for our community. Drowning can happen to anyone โ€” regardless of age or ability.

As Singapore's national water safety authority, the Singapore Life Saving Society urges every member of the public to treat all inland waterways with caution and respect.

We are deeply saddened by the news of a 28-year-old man suspected to have drowned in the waters off East Coast Park. Our condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

This is a painful reminder that drowning can be fast and silent โ€” and it can happen even in familiar places. Letโ€™s not mistake โ€œquietโ€ for โ€œsafeโ€. Vigilance, supervision, and preparedness save lives.

As part of our ongoing commitment to water safety, Singapore Life Saving Society (SLSS) volunteers have started volunteer guarding at East Coast Park. We would love to welcome more volunteers to grow our ranks and strengthen community safety. If you have a heart to serve and a willingness to learn, thereโ€™s a role for you โ€” on the beach, in support, and in prevention outreach.

Looking ahead to World Drowning Prevention Day 2026 (25 July), letโ€™s turn grief into action โ€” and build a Singapore where every family can enjoy the water more safely.

A few simple reminders:

Swim with a buddy; watch out for one another

Supervise children closely (within armโ€™s reach near water)

Avoid alcohol before water activities

If you see someone in trouble, call 995 immediately and alert others nearby

What an inspiring way to spend a Sunday! This past Sunday on 30 Nov 2025, 20 incredible domestic workers in Singapore chose to dedicate their precious day off to a vital cause: learning to save lives.

For the second year of this meaningful annual event, we were proud to have one of our dedicated female SLSS Member, Ms Hya Kia Yuen, step up to lead the session. She was assisted by Ms Angelina Wong, Ms Charmaine Kang, and Ms Fayth Ng. They guided the participants through essential lessons in water safety and practical, land-based rescue methods.

Public pools benefit from the presence of dedicated, on-duty lifeguards. However, in many private residences and condominiums across Singapore, the responsibility for pool safety often falls to the residents and those supervising children. Given that our children frequently enjoy playing in the swimming pools at home, and their helpers are often the ones supervising them poolside, equipping these ladies with knowledge is a proactive step towards greater safety.

Knowing that the person caring for your children possesses fundamental aquatic rescue skillsโ€”even simple techniques for a rescue from the pool deckโ€”offers a profound sense of security to every family.

The best part? These valuable skills are not just for Singapore; they are a gift these women can carry back to their communities and families in their home countries. Thank you to all 20 participants for their commitment! Let's continue to empower our helpers.

A strong partnership for a safer community! The Singapore Life Saving Society is proud to collaborate with PAssion Wave to enhance water safety standards for everyone. We recently kicked off this partnership by conducting a dedicated water safety sharing session for the team at PAssion Wave @ East Coast. This session was designed to empower their staff, who are a vital link in the safety chain, with the essential skills to confidently manage and ensure a safe environment for all their patrons.

Our sharing session covered crucial topics such as recognizing the signs of swimmers in distress, mastering effective supervision techniques, and implementing robust emergency action plans. By working closely with the PAssion Wave team, we are reinforcing their mission to ensure every visit to their facilities is not just fun, but also safe. This successful event marks just the beginning of our collaboration, and we look forward to delivering more of these important water safety sessions across their other venues. Together, we are building a stronger culture of safety around water activities.
