Comprising an exciting blend of youths from various education institutions as well as the workforce, the Boon Lay CC YEC aspires to make a real difference in the community through its meaningful range of projects and activities. Our work in the community focuses on two key areas: Community Engagement and Community Service. This vision has built a strong foundation for the development of many inter
est groups in recent years:
• Icube Youth Community (Community Service Interest Group)
• Black Sheep Balloonists (Balloon Sculpting Interest Group)
• Department of Dance (Dance Interest Group)
• ACE @ Boon Lay (An interest group serving the needs of students at a latchkey centre) The YEC's two-pronged approach has lent strength to "FACELIFT" and "WESTs NEXT?" – flagship projects that not only serve to improve the living conditions of the low-income and needy, but also cater to the different interests of our residents and encourage the active participation of youths in community events. Since its humble beginnings in 2010, "FACELIFT" alone has seen over 700 volunteers helping to clean and repaint the flats of more than 130 underprivileged families in the district. Since the start of 2012, our community engagement initiative "WESTs NEXT?" has already featured 3 exciting projects: WESTs the Food, WESTs the Beat, and WESTs the Game. In achieving these successes, the YEC has concurrently established and maintained school partnerships with Raffles Institution's "The Youth Club @ Boon Lay", as well as informally with a group of students from the nearby River Valley High School. Under the mentorship and guidance of the YECs youth leaders, numerous students from these schools have been afforded opportunities to develop their leadership, planning, and ex*****on skills. They have also benefited greatly through exposure to Boon Lay's grassroots network, as well as through their interaction with Boon Lay's residents. As the YEC grows from strength to strength, its youth leaders continue to build valuable bridges within and between various communities by engaging our networks through collaborations and partnerships, all done in a fun atmosphere with no lack of teambuilding, networking, and learning opportunities.
