Li Foundation recently hosted members of the leadership team from the Lions Club of Singapore, including District Governor-Elect Lawrence Sew and Chairman of Lions Befrienders Alex Lim, for a meaningful exchange on community impact, with a particular focus on eldercare. The discussion explored how foundations, volunteer networks, and community organisations can collaborate more intentionally to meet evolving social needs, especially in response to Singaporeโ€™s ageing population. The exchange was also personally meaningful, as PDG Lionel Li, Charter President Dr. Ada Zhang, and Lion Candy Goh are all members of LCS Bifrost - ๆ–ฐๅŠ ๅกๅฐ่™น็‚น็‹ฎๅญไผš.

Founded on a spirit of service, Lions Club International is one of the worldโ€™s largest volunteer organisations, with an international reach and a long-standing presence in Singapore. Initiatives such as Lions Befrienders and Lions Home for the Elders exemplify its integrated and relational approach to eldercare โ€” addressing social isolation, providing care services, and promoting dignity in ageing.

A key focus of the conversation was Relay Majulah, a ground-up initiative that has grown into a powerful platform for collective giving. First launched in 2019 during Singaporeโ€™s bicentennial celebrations, the relay has evolved from a symbolic island-wide run into a long-term movement to promote unity, resilience, and giving. Its most recent edition, Relay SG60, brought together over 60 teams to run 600 kilometres over 2.5 days, raising funds and mobilising the community to support over 300 Community Chest-backed programmes.

Looking ahead, Relay Majulah 2026 will shift its focus to better support seniors across Singapore amidst our rapidly ageing society. Li Foundation recently hosted Mr Ze TAO, founder of YISHAN China Philanthropy Data Center, for a conversation on the role of data, research, and cross-border collaboration in shaping the future of philanthropy.

Since 2018, Data has been building the digital infrastructure for Chinaโ€™s philanthropy sectorโ€”aggregating data from multiple sources to generate actionable insights on giving trends, resource flows, and key sector challenges. More recently, it launched the Giving China Report series, which Li Foundation has been privileged to support alongside the Gates Foundation, Jack Ma Foundation, and several other major foundations. The series aims to analyse key trends in Chinaโ€™s philanthropy space, from donation sources and top issue areas to year-on-year changes in donations. By transforming fragmented pieces of information into organized knowledge, YiSHAN Data supports more informed decision-making for foundations, policymakers, and philanthropic leaders, while strengthening transparency and trust across the broader ecosystem.

A key theme of the discussion was how data and practice can work hand in hand. While data infrastructure enables better understanding of the sector, real-world experimentation and collaboration are essential to translate insights into impact. The conversation explored how this interplay can inform interventions in diverse fields such as early childhood development, impact investing, and more.

Both sides also highlighted growing opportunities to strengthen connections between China and Southeast Asiaโ€™s philanthropic ecosystems. Specifically, an increasing number of Chinese NGOs are looking to expand their work abroad, while drawing in resources and learning from best practices in the wider Asian region.

As cross-border giving and engagements increase, there is a rising need for shared platforms, localized knowledge, and trusted partnerships to ensure resources are deployed effectively. Li Foundation is honored to partner with YiSHAN Data on this journey to build a more connected, evidence-based, and collaborative Asian philanthropy ecosystem that enables strategic and sustained impact.

Li Foundation recently had the pleasure of meeting Delphine from Suncare SG to learn more about their work in advancing youth wellbeing through science-based and outcome-driven programs.

Positioning itself as an incubator within Singaporeโ€™s social services landscape, Suncare collaborates closely with partners to pilot, evaluate, and scale evidence-based interventions tailored to the local context. Their programs are anchored at The Lighthouse in Punggol West โ€” a children- and youth-centric hub thoughtfully designed to support holistic wellbeing through dedicated spaces for families, youth engagement, and creative expression.

During the session, Suncare shared several of their core programs. You Shine, an after-school initiative supports children in building peer connections while developing socio-emotional regulation through self-directed learning and structured activities. Complementing this is You Power+, a mentor training program that equips volunteers with the skills to support youths facing academic and socio-emotional challenges, with an emphasis on building trust-based relationships. Delphine also introduced You Sparkle, a choir program delivered in collaboration with ComLink+ and Voices of Singapore. Beyond music, the program provides a meaningful platform for children aged 7 to 14 to build confidence, resilience, and a sense of community, particularly for those who may otherwise return to empty homes after school.

In addition to program delivery, Suncare highlighted its commitment to research and evaluation. A recent nationwide survey that it conducted with over 1,000 parents revealed a gap between beliefs and behaviours around play โ€” while the vast majority recognise the importance of playtime for social and cognitive development, many still rely heavily on devices to keep children engaged. These insights underscore the importance of changing parental actions in supporting healthier developmental outcomes for children.

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity for Li Foundation to better understand Suncareโ€™s integrated approach to program innovation, delivery, and evaluation, and to explore potential areas of alignment in advancing youth wellbeing in Singapore.

On 2 April, Li Foundation hosted SHINE Children and Youth Services for a sharing session, where SHINE introduced its work and key programs supporting children and youth across Singapore.

Founded in 1976, SHINE is a registered charity and IPC dedicated to enabling children and youth aged 5 to 25 to maximise their potential. Its work spans school-, centre-, and community-based programs, grounded in research and practice. Anchored by a clear theory of change, SHINE focuses on early intervention and holistic supportโ€”working not only with children and youth, but also their familiesโ€”to nurture development, resilience, and well-being.

During the session, SHINE highlighted several key initiatives. In the field of education, programs such as Reading Odyssey support children with learning challenges by strengthening literacy and cognitive skills. To promote social mobility, initiatives like The Scaffold program and SYNC enhance studentsโ€™ socio-emotional development and school engagement, while the STAR program provides long-term one-to-one mentoring for children from lower-income backgroundsโ€”supporting both the child and their family over 8 years to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty.

SHINE also shared its work in early intervention and youth development, including the Youth COP program, which empowers at-risk youth as leaders in crime prevention and community engagement in collaboration with the police. In response to growing mental health needs, it also developed integrated services such as Youth Integrated Teams and supports the Grovve wellness centre to provide accessible, coordinated care and safe spaces for youth and their caregivers.

Beyond direct service delivery, SHINE actively contributes to the broader social sector through research, training, and consultancy. It develops evidence-based frameworks, conducts program evaluations and applied research, and delivers professional training and clinical supervision for practitioners. Notably, SHINE has undertaken over 15 international engagementsโ€”including overseas presentations, training, and consultationsโ€”sharing its expertise and advancing best practices in youth work beyond Singapore.

The session underscored the importance of partnerships in driving meaningful impact. With its comprehensive and research-informed approach, SHINE continues to play a vital role in supporting children and youth to thrive, laying strong foundations for more inclusive and resilient communities.

On 19 March, Jerome Ong, Associate at Li Foundation, joined a room of NGO practitioners for the Action Research Case Workshop held at the China Global Philanthropy Institute โ€” each bringing a shared question: how do we bridge practice and knowledge, and translate real-world experiences into insights?

The workshop began not with answers, but with a reframing. Led by Associate Professor Xiang Yu from Beijing Normal University, the session challenged a familiar assumption โ€” that research must be objective and detached. Instead, participants were invited to see themselves not as observers, but as part of the systems they seek to change. In action research, oneโ€™s personal values and experience are not biases to eliminate, but a resource to draw from. Practice, reflection, and learning are deeply intertwined, forming a continuous cycle that turns doing into knowing.

As the day unfolded, the conversation shifted from theory to practice. Professor Wang from Dongguan University of Technology guided participants through the craft of systematically reflecting on our work to generate rigorous insights โ€” how to pause, question, and uncover the often-unspoken assumptions behind decisions and actions. Through reflective dialogue, what might otherwise remain as an intuition begins to take shape as structured knowledge. For many in the room, it was a moment of recognition: that the challenges they face daily are not just operational hurdles, but opportunities for deeper inquiry and learning.

In the final segment, the room came alive with discussion. Participants presented to each other, sharing their own practice contexts and grappling with real, unresolved problems. There were no neat solutions, but that was precisely the point. By situating learning within lived experience, action research opens up space not just for answers, but for better questions. It is from this process that new pathways and paradigms begin to emerge.

For Jerome, the workshop was a reminder that meaningful impact is not just about doing, but learning from what we do. As the sector continues to evolve, there is growing recognition that impactful solutions require not only strong implementation but also the ability to reflect, learn, and adapt. Action research offers a valuable framework to support thisโ€”empowering practitioners to turn experience into insight, and insight into more effective action.

At Li Foundation, this spirit of learning through doing continues to shape how we approach our workโ€”one question, one reflection, and one step at a time.

On 12 March 2026, Li Foundation took part in the launch of the Moonshot Philanthropy report at Singapore Management University( )โ€™s Business Families Institute. Bringing together philanthropists, foundation leaders, and ecosystem partners, the session explored a central paradox in philanthropy: while societal challenges are increasingly complex and demand innovative systems change, funding approaches often remain cautious, fragmented, and short-term. Director of Li Foundation, Candy, attended the launch, underscoring our continued commitment to advancing thoughtful, long-term approaches to giving.

The report, presented by Associate Professor Kenneth Goh, examined why philanthropy โ€” a sustained approach to supporting audacious systems change โ€” is difficult to sustain. Rather than a lack of risk appetite, the research highlighted a deeper issue: many philanthropists lack the language and frameworks needed to justify bold, long-term investments to their boards and families. A key insight was the importance of relationships between funders and changemakers, and how trust and alignment must evolve over time to support meaningful impact.

Panellists, including prominent philanthropists Dr. Mary Ann Tsao from Tsao Foundation and Mr. James Chen from the Chen Yat-Sen Foundation, shared candid reflections from their own journeys. Their stories illustrated that transformative change often requires years of patient, iterative effort, with limited early results. From community-based ageing initiatives in Singapore to global vision care programmes that influenced UN policy, both speakers emphasised the persistence, conviction, and resilience needed to pursue moonshot ideas, often in the face of scepticism and limited support.

The discussion also introduced practical tools and concepts โ€” such as โ€œTime to Impact,โ€ โ€œPortfolio Logic,โ€ and the โ€œImpact Timing Matrixโ€ โ€” to help philanthropists better design and communicate long-horizon strategies. A recurring theme was the challenge faced by next-generation philanthropists, who may hold ambitious visions but lack the credibility to act on them within traditional structures. The session concluded with a call to build stronger support ecosystems and to reframe philanthropy as a disciplined, long-term commitment to systemic change. Li Foundation is proud to have participated in the development of the Moonshot Philanthropy report through an interview and remains committed to advancing bold, evidence-informed approaches that enable lasting impact.

Li Foundation recently held its quarterly work meeting. Mr. Ke Ye, Past District Governor of the Beijing Lions Club (District 385) and newly appointed director of Li Foundation, attended the meeting.

Mr. Ye brings two decades of experience in China's philanthropy sector through his leadership roles within the Lions community, particularly his extensive involvement in the Lions Clubs International Youth Camp and Exchange Program (YCE). He also offers a forward-looking perspective shaped by his participation in the Executive Leadership Program (Singapore) module at the China Global Philanthropy Institute (CGPI), reflecting a strong grounding in contemporary philanthropic thinking and practice.

During the meeting, the Li Foundation team provided an overview of recent work and key developments from the past quarter. Highlights included preparations for the upcoming launch of Inspiring Asia 2026, as well as a significant milestone for the China Early Childhood Development (ECD) Collaborativeโ€”the inclusion of ECD priorities in Chinaโ€™s national economic planning framework under the 15th Five-Year Plan.

Mr. Ye shared thoughtful reflections on the Foundationโ€™s initiatives, affirming the importance of sustained, collaborative efforts in advancing social impact. He also expressed his hope that Li Foundation will continue to strengthen its role as a bridge across sectors and geographies, fostering deeper partnerships and driving meaningful, long-term change.

Li Foundation was honoured to participate in the SG60 Appreciation Ceremony held at Punggol, where the ๐‘…e๐‘™a๐‘ฆ ๐‘†G60 b๐‘ฆ ๐‘…e๐‘™a๐‘ฆ ๐‘€a๐‘—u๐‘™aโ„Ž photography book (ISBN: 978-981-94-5384-9) was soft-launched as a commemorative publication capturing the collective spirit behind one of SG60โ€™s unique ground-up community initiatives.

Published and funded by Li Foundation, the photography book documents Relay SG60 by Relay Majulah, a national charity relay co-organised with Zephyr Running Club to commemorate Singaporeโ€™s 60th year of independence. From 4โ€“6 September 2025, the relay brought together 60 teams to run 600 kilometres over 60 consecutive hours, raising more than $800,000 for over 300 charitable programmes supported by Community Chest Singapore.

During the ceremony, a copy of the photography book was presented to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, Gan Kim Yong, and Senior Minister of State for National Development and Transport, Sun Xueling, to recognise the contributions of those who made the relay possible. Li Foundation also hosted a booth for visitors to learn about the Relay SG60 event and the collective effort behind the broader initiative.

Beyond serving as a record, the publication preserves the stories behind the relay โ€“ moments of perseverance, camaraderie, and generosity that defined the initiative and showcased the Singapore spirit. Through photographs and reflections from participants and organisers, the photography book honours the collective effort of the businesses, non-profits, volunteers, and individuals who came together in support of the community. It stands as a legacy of Relay Majulah 2019 and the values of unity, resilience, and giving that the movement embodies.

As the stories of Relay SG60 continue to inspire, Relay Majulah will return in 2026, carrying the baton forward and rallying more individuals and organisations to join in building a stronger, more caring Singapore together. ๐‘€๐‘Ž๐‘—๐‘ข๐‘™๐‘Žโ„Ž ๐‘†๐‘–๐‘›๐‘”๐‘Ž๐‘๐‘ข๐‘Ÿ๐‘Ž!

Li Foundation and Lions Club Singapore were honoured to welcome a visiting delegation from the Beijing Lions Club of the China Council of Lions Clubs (District 385) to Singapore. The delegation was led by District Governor Li Hengyuan, along with Second Vice District Governor Chang Weichen and Past District Governors Liu Haiyan and Ye Ke.

On 8 March, the delegation began their day with a morning visit to the Lions Home For The Elders( ), where they were received by District Governor Chia Lai Soon and Immediate Past District Governor Shirley Lee. The visit provided a first-hand look at Singapore's longstanding commitment to eldercare and community service. Witnessing how sustained, community-based efforts support ageing populations with dignity and care, Lions from both sides engaged in thoughtful discussions on service delivery, leadership development, and the evolving needs of their respective communities.

The day continued with a sharing session hosted by PDG Lionel Li, who introduced the background and work of Li Foundation and reflected on his personal journey in philanthropy. The session offered the visiting delegation further insight into the experiences, values, and sense of purpose that continue to inform the Foundationโ€™s approach to service and social impact.

In the evening, PDG Lionel Li, together with LCS Bifrost - ๆ–ฐๅŠ ๅกๅฐ่™น็‚น็‹ฎๅญไผš, hosted a welcome dinner for the delegation. Singapore Lions leaders in attendance included First Vice District Governor Lawrence Sew, Past Council Chairperson Dr. Winston Koh, Honorary Committee Chairperson and Past District Governor Bobby Eng, Past District Governor Jeffrey Yang, GLT District Coordinator Steven Tan, District Convention Chairperson Henry Liang, Charter President of Lions Club Bifrost Singapore Dr. Ada Zhang, First Vice President Xiong Anhua and Second Vice President Chen Ke.

Beyond the formal programme, the exchange underscored the importance of people-to-people connections in advancing philanthropy. It highlighted how shared valuesโ€”service, leadership, and community impactโ€” unite Lions across borders, and how partnerships such as this one continue to inspire greater collaboration and meaningful impact in the communities we serve.

Founded in 2008, The Community Foundation of Singapore ( ) is the nationโ€™s first leading community foundation and a leading provider of donor-advised funds ( ), dedicated to effecting tangible change and advancing philanthropy in Singapore. CFS strives to foster a more compassionate and unified Singapore, bringing together donors, charities, and advisors, they make charitable giving more impactful.

The CFS Chinese New Year Appreciation Luncheon took place on 24th February 2026, to reconnect, give thanks, and celebrate the partnerships that make their work possible. โ€˜Galloping forward, togetherโ€™ was the theme as they enter the Year of the Horse with energy, purpose and heart.

Candy, Director of Li Foundation was honored to attend the event and be part of this celebration of partnerships and appreciation. Last year, Li Foundation set up a ๐ฟ๐‘–๐‘“๐‘’ ๐ผ๐‘š๐‘๐‘Ž๐‘๐‘ก ๐น๐‘ข๐‘›๐‘‘ (LIF) with CFS, creating a platform to allow like-minded friends and fellow philanthropists to join us in our giving in Singapore.

The afternoon was made even more meaningful by performances from talented artists from our community partners, MINDSG Ltd and Resound Collective โ€” a powerful reminder that inclusion and opportunity lie at the heart of what we seek to support.

Guest-of-Honour, Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, and Senior Minister of State for Education, Mr David Neo, encouraged us to continue building a โ€œWe Firstโ€ society, one where we uplift one another and advance philanthropy through strong stewardship and partnership.

More than an annual gathering, the luncheon reminds us at LIF that meaningful impact is built on trust, shared purpose and the willingness to journey together.

On 3 March 2026, the Li Foundation team met with Laura Hemrika, CEO of the Julius Baer Foundation, and representatives from Julius Baer to exchange insights on philanthropy, wealth inequality, and strategic initiatives. The meeting offered both organisations an opportunity to explore shared values and approaches to creating meaningful social impact across the wealth spectrum.

Established over 60 years ago and rooted in the legacy of the Baer family, the Julius Baer Foundation has sharpened its philanthropic focus in recent years to centre on one of the defining challenges of our time: wealth inequality. The Foundation's guiding question is how funded projects can meaningfully bridge the gap between the haves and have-nots โ€” whether through access to education, social capital, or economic opportunity. A compelling example of this in practice is their work connecting underprivileged entrepreneurs with experienced mentors, creating tangible pathways for upward mobility.

What sets the Foundation apart is the breadth of resources behind its mission. Not only does the Bank cover all operational costs, ensuring donations flow directly to programmatic work, but its extensive network of high-net-worth clients further enables funded projects to access influential communities that are traditionally hard reach. Complementing this is an ongoing research collaboration with Oxford University on how to engage wealthy individuals โ€” both wealth creators and inheritors โ€” on inequality in ways that resonate. Findings are expected to be published by year-end, supported by closed-door convenings that bring together academics, researchers, practitioners, and philanthropists. The Foundation has also launched the Wealth Inequality Initiative, an independent online community dedicated to raising awareness and spotlighting solutions in this space.

The conversation highlighted the complementary nature of both foundations' work. While Li Foundation champions innovative social initiatives across Asia, Julius Baer Foundation brings deep expertise in engaging the philanthropic community around systemic inequality and in leveraging private wealth networks for public good. Both teams identified potential areas for continued dialogue and action, including knowledge exchange and the use of the Inspiring Asia Micro Film Festival to spotlight and support community-based initiatives tackling inequality.

This exchange marks a meaningful step in building cross-sector philanthropic partnerships, demonstrating how foundations with shared values can learn from one another and work towards more equitable outcomes for communities across Asia and beyond.
