“Sometimes growth comes from letting go. From travelling without a map, being open, and allowing ourselves to be part of a bigger narrative.”

Grappling with the overwhelming pressures of agency life within the city, Siyuan Aw decided to leave the high-octane city of Shanghai and head towards the high-altitude wilderness of West Mongolia.

It was among the grassy peaks of Mongolia’s Altai Mountains where Aw met Bekku, a local eagle hunter. This encounter would eventually spark the creation of Our Wings As One, a debut picture book that has recently been shortlisted for the Hedwig Anuar Children’s Book Award (HABA) 2026. The English edition was launched during the Asian Festival of Children's Content (AFCC) in May.

Read the full article here:

Artist Siyuan Aw's debut picture book Our Wings As One began with a solitary journey to Mongolia, and an extraordinary meeting with a boy and his eagle – who taught him the strength to let go, and the courage to begin again.

From digging through discarded fabrics, to sewing baby shorts into puppets, this whole project came together in just 2 weeks with lots of multitasking, sewing chaos, and yapping sessions in between.

Come by this weekend and add your own fabric Post-it note with the world you hope to see in 100 years 🌈✨You’ll get to flip through the fabric books and read messages left by others too.

We couldn’t have made this happen without the support of Singpaore Book Council, Dinostaury and our Volunteers!
See you at The National Library!

The Singapore literary community mourns the passing of Tamil writer and translator J.M. Sali, whose contributions to Singapore Tamil literature spanned decades.

In 1996, he received the Book Award from the then-National Book Development Council of Singapore for his short-story collection Nonbu. His novel Aayul Thandanai was shortlisted for the Singapore Literature Prize in 2008. In recognition of his lifelong contributions to the arts and literature, he received the Cultural Medallion in 2012 and the Southeast Asian Writers Award in 2015.

J.M. Sali’s writings and translations have left a lasting impact on Singapore’s literary landscape. He will be deeply missed.
