Singapore Indian Development Association

Singapore Indian Development Association The Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA) is a Self-Help Group, set up in 1991 to benefit The opportunities are great for every student in Singapore.

SINDA was formed in August 1991 to address the pressing educational and socio-economic issues facing the community. From September 1990 to March 1991, the Action Committee on Indian Education (ACIE) discussed these issues, after which, in July 1991, the ACIE presented a report entitled ‘At The Crossroads’ to the Government. The report highlighted the under-performance of Indian students in the aca

demic arena and recommended wide-ranging remedial measures. In this light, SINDA was formed to raise the academic level of Indian students. In addition to that primary objective, SINDA also offers a range of programmes and services to help families who approach us for various forms of assistance. We assist with the social and economic development of individuals. Youths too benefit from our programmes that are aimed at mentoring and equipping them with leadership skills. The core thrust of SINDA is ‘Maximising Educational Opportunities for ALL’. He/ she and the family must maximise these opportunities.

“When women are empowered, families become stronger and communities are uplifted, and as a result, society as a whole prospers.” – Minister Indranee Rajah, President, SINDA, and Guest-of-Honour at SINDA's Let Her Shine! ShineSpire Conversation 2026.

The event brought together diverse voices around the theme “Change the Narrative. Own Your Voice.”, and through discussions on identity, mental health, and societal expectations, it created space for open and meaningful dialogue.

CEO, SINDA, Mr Anbarasu Rajendran, also noted that the Indian community continues to recognise the presence of invisible barriers that can hinder women’s progress, and initiatives like the Let Her Shine! ShineSpire Conversation aims to equip women with the confidence, support, and resources needed to overcome these barriers and thrive.

The SINDA Bus is on the move! 🚌💙

Bringing support closer to the community, the newly-launched SINDA Bus delivers a range of services — from health and mental wellness screenings to educational and community programmes — making help more accessible, especially for families who need it most.

At its recent stop at Kebun Baru Community Club, about 30 seniors benefited from complimentary eye screenings and took part in a series of health talks organised by the Kebun Baru Indian Activity Executive Committee.

Reaching out to residents right where they are is at the heart of this initiative. In the months ahead, the SINDA Bus will continue its journey across Singapore, connecting more communities with essential support.

Here's what participants picked up at the 𝑺𝑯𝑰𝑵𝑬𝑺𝑷𝑰𝑹𝑬 𝑪𝑶𝑵𝑽𝑬𝑹𝑺𝑨𝑻𝑰𝑶𝑵 2026! ✨

From unpacking fear, expectations, and the unseen pressures shaping young women today, to exploring how internal self-doubt and external barriers influence opportunities and leadership, today’s conversation was both honest and thought-provoking.

Participants also engaged in a dynamic exchange on internal vs external limitations, reflecting on how confidence, environment, support systems, and mental well-being all play a role in shaping aspirations and action.

We were honoured to have Minister Indranee Rajah, President, SINDA, join us in this meaningful dialogue, reinforcing the importance of collective responsibility, allyship, and creating supportive environments for young women to thrive.

💬 The conversation doesn’t end here — it continues with all of us.

So… what happens after the awareness hits? 👀✨

Hearing from some powerful voices at our second ShineSpire Conversation panel, we're diving into self-advocacy, mental well-being, allyship, and what it actually takes to show up for yourself and the people around you.

Think: speaking up in spite of self-doubt, understanding burnout + unlearning comparison, and building spaces where people feel seen, heard, and supported.

Because growth doesn’t wait for certainty. And real change? It starts when we show up for each other.

💬 What's YOUR action plan to go out there and shine? 😉

They said “be confident” but never told us how loud fear gets first. 👀💭

Kicking off our first panel at the ShineSpire Conversation with some real talk from incredible voices: unpacking fear, pressure, expectations, and the internal battles that shape how we show up.

We're talking imposter syndrome, to the pressure to “have it together,” to waiting to feel ready (spoiler: we may never do). ✨

But importantly, how do we step forward anyway?
Where do we find guidance, support, and the safe spaces that remind us we don’t have to do it alone?

This one’s for every woman who’s ever second-guessed herself before even starting.
We’re naming the fears ➡️ so they stop defining us.

With heartfelt moments and shared strength 💛✨, nearly 80 mothers and their children came together for SINDA’s Project Athena Mother’s Day celebration — featuring a special two-day camp experience.

Designed as a meaningful space for connection, the event brought mothers together to bond, share, and support one another. Through engaging activities, games, and an overnight stay, they deepened relationships with their children while forming new friendships. Visits to Mandai Wildlife Park, Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, and River Wonders added a sense of adventure and joy throughout the experience.

The programme also boosted participants’ confidence and emotional well-being. Many shared that the experience helped them reconnect with their children, embrace moments of happiness, and rediscover their inner strength alongside a community of resilient women 🌸.

More than a Mother’s Day celebration 🌷, this initiative highlights the power of community, connection, and shared growth — empowering families to move forward with confidence and hope. 🌈💛
