Strengthening Ukraine: Sharing Knowledge for a Sustainable Future

ICLD participated in the 4th HROMADA Conference in Riga, Latvia, bringing together researchers, practitioners and experts to exchange experiences and lessons from Ukraine. ICLD was represented in the panel “Drawing lessons from local preparedness in Ukraine for the Baltic-Nordic region.”

The conference explored three important themes:
💡Local preparedness and lessons from Ukraine for the Baltic-Nordic region.
💡The resilience of Ukrainian universities during wartime.
💡Internally displaced persons (IDPs), local communities and the challenges of long-term displacement.

Ukraine’s experience demonstrates the importance of resilient local institutions, strong communities and the ability to adapt and respond in times of crisis.

🙋‍♀️Worldwide Network of Women Leaders 💥

This week, we hold our final workshop as part of the Women’s Political Leadership (WPL) programme.

Over the years, Swedish mentors have supported 275 inspiring women politicians from 26 countries across three continents, helping them grow as leaders and strengthen democracy in their communities.

Although this is ICLD’s final workshop, we hope the connections, friendships and shared commitment to women’s political leadership will continue to flourish. We believe we have helped build a worldwide network of women leaders that will endure for many years to come. 💜

Over 12 years, ICLD’s Women’s Political Leadership (WPL) programme has brought together women politicians from across the world to learn, share experiences and strengthen their leadership. Now, we are bringing together some of those experiences in our new anthology: "Women Leading Democratic Change"

The anthology shares reflections, lessons and stories from women politicians who have worked to create change in their communities and strengthen local democracy. For everyone who has been part of the WPL journey – this publication is a part of your shared story!

The ICLD Local Democracy Talk on 8 October 2026 brought together voices and experiences from across the Women’s Political Leadership (WPL) programme to explore how women’s political leadership can contribute to change beyond individual leaders – in communities, institutions and local democracy.
