During this year’s Annual Fall Meeting, we organised a dedicated training session for our Board of Trustees and Board of Directors on the updated Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS).

Läkarmissionen / LM International is committed to serving communities with dignity, impact, and transparency and ensuring that our leadership, including board governance, is aligned with the highest global standards is a top priority.

The 2024 CHS update refines how humanitarian and development actors place people affected by crisis at the centre of aid. During the session, our board engaged deeply with the revised commitments, discussing and evaluating how we can further integrate these principles into our strategic governance, risk management, and global programmes.

This week marked the launch of the Inclusive Education Hub for Africa, were LM International in partnership with Interim Steering Committee, welcomed governments, educators, organisations of persons with disabilities, families, researchers and civil society to shine light on the need of advancing the inclusive learning for children with disabilities.

At the launch of the Hub, a new online platform aiming to connect people and organisations working on the advancement of disability-inclusive education across the continent, was introduced.

The Hub aims to bridge the gap between present local and pioneering inclusive teaching practices and the spread and upscale of them across the continent of Africa.

All in the service of ensuring education for all children, regardless of disability.

At the launch, we were delighted to host the following innovators working on practical solutions to make education more accessible:

Learning Differently Limited, AuraLearn AI, Ishara AI, Deaf Outreach Program (DEAFOP), Somasoma AI, eKitabu, LoHo Learning, AssistiveMath, Elekeza, Signvrse, Andy Speaks 4 Special Needs Persons Africa and AssistAll App.

We are most grateful for the attraction this important initiative has drawn upon its launch, including the presence of Kenya’s Directorate of Special Needs Education Fred Haga, EALA MP Hon. David Ole Sankok and Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, as well as the media coverage by Kenyan media including The Standard, Kenyan Report, KBC and KTN:

This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming our partner SEMA Ukraine in Stockholm, Sweden.🇺🇦🕊️

The work of Sema Ukraine is truly astonishing; empowering survivors of conflict related sexual violence (CRSV) and supporting them in regaining their strength, as well as advocating for truth, justice and the elimination of sexual violence as a weapon of war.

“It’s about truth” as a member of SEMA Ukraine simply put it.

Our deepest gratitude to the Swedish Minister of Gender Equality Nina Larsson for welcoming the delegation to a round-table discussion, together with the Ministry of Employment, the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The women of SEMA Ukraine spoke of the realities and consequences of the use of the weaponisation of sexual violence, their work in terms of recovery and advocacy, as well as the support they wish to see from the Swedish Government.

Our projects with SEMA Ukraine is funded by Svenska institutet.

LM International has joined Education Cannot Wait's campaign, calling for sustained investment in every child’s right to learn!

It’s a global effort to mobilise US$600 million and provide 10 million crisis-affected children and adolescents with safe, quality education between 2027 and 2030.

Our engagement in the campaign is connected to our practical work in Sudan, where the war has created one of the world’s most severe humanitarian and education crises. At least 8 million children – nearly half of the country’s school-age population – are out of school.

Supported by a new US$22 million, three-year investment from , we are an implementation partner in a consortium led by Save the Children International , alongside Plan International and the Sudanese organisations Alsalam Organisation for Relief and Development and Sadagaat.

Together, the consortium partners will support children's return to learning environments that provide education, protection, stability and psychosocial support and aims to ensure nearly 200,000 crisis-affected children and adolescents access safe, quality and inclusive education across West Darfur, South Kordofan and Gedaref.

🌟 Our Ugochi Cynthia Abazie, Global Programme Manager, is one of the nominees for the 2026 CHS Alliance Governing Board!

Cynthia is a human rights lawyer and humanitarian practitioner, bringing a rights‑based perspective grounded in field experience, alongside a deep commitment to safeguarding (PSEAH) and accountability to affected populations. At a time when trust in the humanitarian sector is eroding, she sees the CHS as more critical than ever as a credible, inclusive, system‑wide framework to ensure principled humanitarian action.

She aims to amplify the voices of crisis affected communities, advance the Grand Bargain commitments and localization, and help translate standards into practice through stronger partnerships and sector‑wide learning.

“My goal is to support the CHS Alliance 2026 to 2030 strategic cycle by strengthening accountability to affect the population's, driving continuous improvements particularly around CHS due diligence, passporting and promoting a more locally-led and inclusive humanitarian system.”
