Karmafika in Östgöta Nation Fika with a little extra care! Sold in Östgöta Nations café Mjölkbaren, mon-fri 12-16:30 and saturdays 11-16. But the extra money goes to charity! Fika+Karma.

Karmafika means something home baked sold in the ÖG café Mjölkbaren at a slighly higher price than the other sweets. Everyone helping out with this does so 100% voluntary for no profit (except tasting what they just baked.) The charity supported has varied. For instance, 500 SEK was raised for the Unicef during the first semester! Can't get any better. Where to get this fika then? In Östgöta stude

Karma friends! The semester is heading towards an end, and last week the ÖG café were open for the last time before the summer. Let's all have a nice, sunny and restful summer and meet again this fall to bake and enjoy more Karmafika! Loads of love! / Karolin

Absolutely stunned by the bakers yesterday! So many people turned up, I think I lost count at 20 or something (and the by far youngest helper ever (3 years old) as a bonus!)... We did accomlish semlor and cupcakes (with coffee and a white chocolate frosting), even though the kitchen was crowded and I tried to be in several places at once. -you were so nice and patient, an extra thank you to those who even helped me do dishes and clean the kitchen afterwards

Nytt Karmafika är skapat- kärleksmums med mintchoklad har tillverkat omsorgsfullt. Pengarna går till Musikhjälpen! Säjs i ÖG:s mjölkbar precis som vanligt. Välkomna till det julmysiga fiket!

Ett stort TACK till alla som kom och fikade i torsdags, och till de som hjälpte till att göra eventet möjligt. Det är lite svårt att räkna ut exakt hur många som fikade Fairtrade, bl.a. för att alla teer inte var det och att jag inte vet vilka som köpte Karmafika tillsammans med kaffet eller inte... Men 67 koppar te/kaffe såldes och ca 30 Karmafika, och till kaffet tillkommer ett mörkertal för de som jobbar på nationen och får gratis kaffe som välförtjänt förmån...
Ett varmt och hjärtligt tack tillsammans med ett minst lika hjärtligt och varmt välkommen åter- vi blir lika glada att se er varje gång ;) Fairtradekaffet finns ju kvar, och planen är att Karmafikat ska komma igång igen (den som vill vara med och baka kan höra av sig till mig eller hålla koll på denna sida för info om när det är dags). Vi syns vid kaffetermosen!

THANKS to everyone who came and had a fika this past Thursday, and to those who made the event happen. About 67 cups of coffee/tea were sold and 30 Karmafika. No way of telling how many people bought both or how many cups of coffee went to those working in the nation who deserves their free caffeine.
A warm thank you along with as warm a "welcome back", we are as happy to see you every time ;) The Fairtrade coffee is still there and hopefully the Karmafika will become more of a permanent item in the range (if you'd like to hel out in baking, keep checking this page for info or send me a message). See you by the coffee thermos!

Tomorrow, Thursday, brings a ressurection of the Karmafika in Östgöta Nation! Minty chocolate cake with coffee icing and banana cake made with Fairtrade and organic ingredients with the extra "Karma money" supporting the "Världens Barn" campaign (helping children worldwide to get a better life, Radiohjälpen raise the money). Come along and have that, Fairtrade coffee or any of the brand new Fairtrade tea ;) In Mjölkbaren between 12-17. Welcome!

Karmafika is back! Carrot cake now being sold in Mjölkbaren :) 15 SEK, 5 of them go to charity! And this time almost all the ingredients are organic (organic vanilla, cinnamon, cardamom and cream cheese weren't sold in the grocery store I went to...). Last semester we raised about 600 SEK for the Unicef, let's break the record this semester! And THANK YOU to the lovely people who joined in the baking last night :)

Hey, fika lovers- do not fear! Plans are being made for a Karmafika baking session sometime next week. I've sent an e-mail to the adresses I got from the reception of new students asking which day would suit them best. I still have to check if the kitchen is available, but tuesday or wednesday are the evenings that I'll aim for. Just shout if you want to join; and also if you have any suggestions on what would be nice to bake ;)

Naturally, the Karmafika will be presented in the reception for new students at Östgöta Nation that begins in 45 minutes! (In close cooperation with the sustainability work in ÖG as the same person happens to run both of them...) This reception will, as usual, offer an exciting tour of the nation house and what you can do there and I strongly recommend you to go! And of course you don't have to be a new student to attend ;)

Eventually a date for the first Karmafika baking will appear on the noticeboards in the nation and on this page. I can reveal already that it's most probably not going to happen before the weekend with the reccegasque (14/9), ball night (15/9) and all. Good things come to those who wait!

New semester, new people, new fika! The semester is starting up and so is the Karmafika. At the moment it's one person running it, but hopefully more and more people will get involved as the semester starts. I (Karolin) will be present in the reception for new students to talk about the Karmafika and the plans for sustainability/environmental work on September 4th and the first baking session will be sometime after that- keep updated in this page! Welcome (back) to Uppsala! :D
