Following the ISoP Africa Chapter Meeting, UMC was pleased to participate in a workshop on detecting, classifying, and responding to Adverse Events of Special Interest (AESIs) for vaccine safety surveillance in Africa.

Held in Windhoek, Namibia🇳🇦, the event brought together participants from pharmacovigilance centres and immunisation programmes across 15 African countries for practical, hands‑on training using real‑world scenarios, demonstrating how UMC tools ( and ) and resources can be used to detect AESIs. The workshop also explored how resources offered by Safety Platform for Emergency Vaccines (SPEAC) and Brighton Collaboration can be utilised alongside UMC resources to improve AESI identification, triage discipline, signal detection, and proportionate regulatory decision‑making during emergency vaccine rollouts.

Thank you to workshop coordinators, Africa CDC, Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations - CEPI and SPEAC, and attendees for a fruitful training session!

From bandages to pacemakers, medical devices play a vital role in modern healthcare and in the daily lives of patients. Monitoring the safety of these devices can be complex, as it must consider not only medical risks, but also technological and engineering risks, such as cybersecurity threats or outdated software.

In this two-part episode, Omar Aimer, President of ISoP Online, breaks down medical device vigilance and shares how global initiatives are working to strengthen safety monitoring standards.

The future of in Africa took centre stage at this year's Chapter Meeting as regulators, healthcare professionals, industry, academia, and international organisations gathered in Namibia🇳🇦.

A strong sense of optimism surrounded the discussions as the African Medicines Agency moved from vision to reality. Collaboration across countries and organisations emerged as a key theme to realise a new era of PV that is stronger, more harmonised, digitally enabled, and supports resilient health systems across the continent.

UMC was pleased to contribute through an educational workshop on effective communications and a session exploring how adverse event data can help flag issues related to substandard and falsified medicinal products. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to explore the and learn how VigiFlow and its connected applications are ready to support regional safety reporting and surveillance to AfriVigilance.

Thank you to the conference hosts, ISoP Africa Chapter and the Ministry of Health and Social Services of Namibia, as well as speakers, sponsors, and attendees, for making this a valuable and memorable event 👏

🎥 Collaboration is the foundation of medicines and vaccine safety. Brazil's system is no exception.

Since 2020, Anvisa has required marketing authorisation holders to submit safety data via Med Empresas ( eReporting for Industry), with UMC's Drug Dictionary, Global, now mandatory for coding safety data.

Local stakeholders, including Instituto Butantan and the pharmaceutical industry, are utilising these tools to code pre- and post-marketing data and manage adverse event reports in a standardised and harmonised way. This enables all parties to speak a common language when it comes to .

🫀Stents, injection needles, ECG monitors. These are just some of the that nearly every patient treated at Mexico's Instituto Nacional de Cardiología Ignacio Chávez (INC) will encounter.

To better detect, analyse, and monitor medical device-related incidents, the INC established a dedicated centre, the first of its kind in a clinical setting in Mexico🇲🇽.

Learn how the INC's efforts have gone beyond detecting safety problems to actively preventing medical device-related harm and keeping hearts beating in 👇

A Mexican cardiology hospital became the first to establish a dedicated technovigilance centre in a clinical setting, and its work is already contributing to patient safety.
