The journey of water doesn't end when it reaches the home.
In many rural communities, water is collected from a well, borehole or another shared water source and carried home in reused jerrycans, often containers that once held cooking oil.
Getting the water home is an achievement in itself. But it is only part of the journey.
Water can be contaminated during transport and storage, and once it reaches the household it is needed for much more than drinking. It is used to prepare food, wash hands and bodies, clean dishes and clothes and care for children.
And this is where The Hot Water Question enters the picture.

We talk a lot about getting safe water to people. Perhaps we should also talk more about what families need that water to do once they have carried it home.
Because the water journey doesn't end at the well.
