👋🏻 Get to know our latest addition to the board: Arsen!🌟

Q: What is your vision for the armenian community in Sweden?

A: The vast geographical span of our country presents real challenges to maintaining strong physical, mental, and spiritual connections among our diverse Armenian communities. My vision is to overcome these barriers by strengthening ties between towns with significant Armenian populations, fostering a deeper sense of unity and reducing the impact of geographic distance. AGBU YP is uniquely positioned to lead this effort. As a nonpartisan and nonprofit organization that represents the full spectrum of backgrounds and perspectives within our rich diaspora, it provides a powerful platform for meaningful connections, collaboration and collective growth.

Q: What is the most Armenian thing about you?

A: Oof—that’s a tough one. I wasn’t quite prepared for it simply because there are so many things to choose from. But if I had to narrow it down to three they would be my love for the Armenian cuisine, my name >Arsen< which means a noble warrior(Aznvagan razmig) signifying the Armenian spirit which has always been in wars and battles to protect our lands, culture, heritage and faith. ⚔️✝️🇦🇲 And lastly our uniquely expressive sayings woven into everyday life. One of my favorites is saying “Achks lujs” sarcastically when someone seeks my advice in a matter, chooses to disregard it and predictably creates a mess facing the consequences.😌😆

Q: What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?

A: My connection to AGBU is more personal unlike most of the board being born and raised in the AGBU spirit. Some of my strongest childhood memories come from growing up within the Armenian community in Baghdad during the 1990s, through our church, school, and community associations—many of which existed thanks to AGBU. Over the past three years, I closely followed the global expansion of AGBU YP and patiently awaited the opening of a chapter in Sweden. When an acquaintance told me it had finally been launched here, I was genuinely excited and eager to get involved.🚶🏻

Get to know our board member for communication lead: Knar 🌟

Q: What is your vision for the Armenian community in Sweden?
A: I would like to see a community united by culture, strengthened by a shared identity, and guided by a collective vision for the future. A community that actively comes together to preserve, celebrate, and reimagine our traditions, holidays, and historical achievements—transforming them into living experiences for the next generation. I believe that AGBU YP Sweden has the potential to serve as that platform: a space where Armenians of all backgrounds can connect, collaborate, and contribute to shaping a vibrant cultural presence in Sweden. I am excited to be part of this journey and to play a role in cultivating a strong and future-oriented Armenian community.

Q: What is the most Armenian thing about you?
A: In my family, we still speak the dialect of Mush, the region my great-grandparents came from. This dialect is more than just a form of speech—it is a living bridge to our ancestral homeland, layered with history, memory, and resilience. Holding onto this dialect is my way of honoring my family’s roots and ensuring that a unique part of Armenian cultural heritage continues to live on in everyday life.

Q: If you could invite any Armenian person (living or dead) to a dinner party, who would it be?
A: I would be fascinated to meet Atom Egoyan and Arsinée Khanjian. They represent, to me, the perfect synthesis of Armenian creativity, intellectual depth, and artistic sensitivity. A conversation with them would be an extraordinary opportunity to explore Armenian cinematography, art and culture, while also reflecting on how Armenian identity evolves in the diaspora. To share a table with them would be not only inspiring but an expectional experience of learning.

Q: What is your vision for the Armenian community in Sweden?
A: My vision is to create a strong professional network where Armenians can connect, collaborate, help and support each other. Together we can build a community who not only empowers and helps each other grow while preserving our cultural identity and heritage, but also contributes to the Swedish society in important ways.

Q: What is the most Armenian thing about you?
A: Definitely my name - Tatev, which comes from Tatev monastery in Armenia 🇦🇲 Located in the Syuniq region, the monastery offers a gorgeous and breathtaking view of the gorge of the Vorotan river and has played a significant role in the history of the region as a center of economic, political, spiritual and cultural activity. A must visit for everyone who goes to Armenia! And also a chance to ride the highest and longest aerial ropeway in the world - Tatever🪽

Q: What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
A: I speak 8 languages (well if you count Latin, which is technically a dead language).
