Growing equality together in Egypt 🌱By finding new and creative ways to collaborate, we can develop smarter solutions to complex challenges.

In Egypt Diakonia and the Eparchial Development Office (EDO) work together to promote gender equality and prevent violence against women and girls in rural communities around Assiut, Egypt.
Within the Generation of Equality project, a community advisory committee was created, that brought together local leaders, beneficiaries, and government representatives. By creating space for dialogue, trust, and cooperation, the committee helped communities address sensitive issues and find practical solutions together.

This participatory approach strengthened relationships between schools, local authorities, families, and young people, laying the foundation for lasting change that extends far beyond the life of the project.

As Hany Fawzy, Executive Director of EDO, reflects: “The collaboration with Diakonia has transformed us as an organization. Before our partnership began, we were a charity-based organization; now we work from a rights-based approach.”

When communities lead change, equality can take root and grow for generations. 💜

This is how we work with IHL ⚖️

Diakonia’s IHL Centre is now launching a short video outlining the work of the IHL Centre supporting humanitarian organizations, civil society actors, diplomats, journalists, policymakers, and others working to strengthen protection for civilians affected by armed conflict.

At a time when civilians continue to bear the brunt of conflict around the world, and respect for international humanitarian law faces growing challenges, the need for practical, independent, and accessible legal expertise has never been greater.

Available in English, French, and Arabic, the video provides a snapshot of the work of the IHL Centre and how they support humanitarian action, accountability, and civilian protection through legal analysis, training, advisory services, publications, and humanitarian diplomacy.

Partners, rightsholders, civil society actors, and stakeholders came together to mark the closing of the Protecting, Empowering Activists and Communities for Enhanced Rights (P.E.A.C.E. Rights) Project and reflect on three years of advancing human rights and civic space in .

The event provided a space to share lessons learned, celebrate achievements, and hear directly from communities and activists involved in the project. Participants also launched the project's analytical review and viewed documentaries highlighting the project's journey and impact.

Funded by the European Union and implemented by Diakonia in partnership with the International Centre for Ethnic Studies and the Centre for Environmental Justice, the P.E.A.C.E. Rights Project strengthened the protection of human rights defenders, supported civic engagement, and amplified community voices through advocacy, research, storytelling, training, and community mobilization.

While the project has concluded, the partnerships, networks, and momentum built over the past three years will continue to support a more inclusive and -based society in Sri Lanka.

Without political parity between women and men, there is no equality. And without equality, there is no full democracy. 💔

Through our Paridad Programme we work in 10 countries across Latin America to strengthen the participation of key civil society actors, using an intersectional and inclusive approach. Parity is a right. Full democracy is a shared goal.

Paridad Programme is an initiative led by Diakonia, with support from Sida, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
