TILL MINNE AV RICHARD SMALLWOOD
Richard Smallwood Singers kom till Sverige flera gånger under 1980-talet och fick beröra många. Det var bland annat EFS och Svalkan som öppnade upp dörrarna. En spindel i nätet var Thomas ”Tjotte” Sundberg som sedan under många år styrde upp kring Stockholm Gospelkör Festival på somrarna.
2005 hade vi glädjen att få spela in en skiva med Mr Smallwood i Stockholm, då han också medverkade på Sjung Gospel i Berwaldhallen. En fantastisk låtskrivare har lämnat oss. Sången ”Total Praise”, som förstås fanns med på skivan, är kanske den mest älskade gospelsången idag bland gospel-körsångare.
Gospel är något som både håller att leva på och dö på. En av Mr Smallwoods mest kända sånger på 80-talet, The center of my joy, är en sång som lyfter gospelns kärna. Med tacksamhet minns vi honom.
