Salka Ardal Rosengren works with dance and performance. She studied at P.A.R.T.S. (2006–2010) and holds a Master’s in New Performative Practices from Stockholm University of the Arts (2021).
Her work Lasting Figures toured with Riksteatern last autumn and has also been shown at Weld, Atalante, Flockfestivalen, and HOROS. She has created works with Mikko Hyvönen, Nicholas Hoffman, and Andrew Hardwidge.
As a dancer, she has toured internationally with artists including Eszter Salamon, Xavier Le Roy, Boris Charmatz, Daniel Linehan, Sarah Vanhee, Tino Sehgal, and others.
She has taught at institutions such as Cullberg, Norrdans, Stockholm University of the Arts, Musée de la danse, and Beijing Dance Academy. She currently teaches at Balettakademin and leads classes at Värmeverket in Bredäng, where she lives.
CLASS DESCRIPTION
This class works on the dynamics of dancing together using touch, a listening attitude, and the roles of leading and following. I will start with a guided a warm-up to tune the body and mind passing through a långdans, shaking and some functional movements. Inspired by my own experience of social dancing I will then propose exercises that point to the constant negotiation of surrendering and control at work when dancing with a partner. we will work both in couples and group. To sharpen our attention, we will shift between dancing and watching one another. The classes are informed by my interest of ‘playing’, performing and socialness of dancing.
