From the lab to a live bioreactor – a glimpse into the research

Recently Protein4impact took part in European Researchers' Night in Braga, Portugal, bringing the project’s research closer to the public. Visitors could follow the journey from microorganisms growing on Petri dishes to fermentation in an airlift bioreactor, and see how food by-products can be used as a starting point for producing mycoprotein.

🌍💚 MyBuddy – Because belonging begins with friendship!

How does a child feel welcome in a new school, a new country or a new community?

Sometimes, it starts with something very simple: another child saying, “Come with me!”

🤝 MyBuddy is part of our European SCHOOLinHUB project, co-funded by the EU's Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF). The idea is to connect newly arrived children and families with peers who can help them discover their new environment, build friendships and feel that they belong.

And the wonderful thing? Both buddies learn from each other!

🌿 How can schools implement MyBuddy?

Children can be paired as buddies and given opportunities to explore, play and learn together. They might share a game, work on a creative project, discover their school or take part in an excursion. Families can also connect through shared activities and informal meetings.

🚶‍♀️🚶🏽 This is an example of a MyBuddy Partner Walk!

During an excursion, buddies walk together, discover their surroundings, ask questions, share stories and get to know one another naturally.

There is no need for perfect language skills. A smile, a shared discovery or helping each other across a muddy path can be the beginning of a friendship.

And perhaps the most important lesson is this:

A buddy is not simply someone who helps a newcomer. A buddy is someone who discovers how much they can learn from another person.

Because inclusion does not begin with a programme.

It begins with a relationship. 💚

How can we create a more inclusive green technology sector for women? 💚

WOMEN4AGREENEU is preparing upcoming workshop in Stockholm, Sweden to bring together key national stakeholders to identify the barriers and opportunities shaping women's participation in green technology.

🎯 The workshop objectives include:
🔎 Mapping barriers and enablers for women in green technology.
💡 Gathering validated insights from national stakeholders.
🤝 Identifying practical solutions and policy interventions.
📌 Establishing priorities for national-level action.
🇪🇺 Contributing to the development of an EU-level Policy Blueprint.

Through dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge sharing, we aim to turn stakeholder insights into practical actions that promote gender equality and expand opportunities for women in the green technology sector.

🏆We are happy to share that Protein4impact has been nominated for the Bravo Sustainability Dialogue & Awards 2026 in the Sustainable Food Systems & Behavioural Change category.

The nomination recognises the work of our colleagues EVRIDIKI KABA, Iliana Tsampoula, and Eirini Zorba from University of West Attica on “Behavioural intervention to enhance adoption of alternative proteins on the diet.”

Through behavioural research, Protein4impact explores the acceptance of alternative proteins and ways to encourage their adoption as part of healthier and more sustainable diets.

🌾 Protein4impact at the 4th NIZO Plant Protein Functionality Conference!

How can we turn brewer’s spent grain into more functional protein ingredients? At the 4th NIZO Plant Protein Functionality Conference, Yanyan Zhang and Zexin Lin of Hohenheim from Universität Hohenheim will present our work on a new approach using fungal biotransformation of brewer’s spent grain (BSG) protein fractions.

As part of this work, they are testing BSG protein samples provided by CentraleSupélec, exploring how fungal biotransformation could help improve their purity, flavour and techno-functional properties.

Come and meet us at the conference! We look forward to sharing our work and exchanging ideas with researchers working on the functionality of plant-based and alternative protein ingredients.
