Knitting for Climate

Knitting for Climate Knitting for Climate is dedicated to fight the climate crisis. We went to EU with 1,5 km knitted resistance from 9 countries to meet MEP:s in Sept 24.

In 2025 we launch a new GLOBAL campaign. 1,5°C is where we draw the line! We have endorsed ”Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty”
We demand our governments and EU to ratify the treaty and end the use of fossil fuels.

Be smart. Crochet undercover, use your ability to code, deciphre and to interact. Our use of soft materials have taught us to be like water, float, softly embrace and cradle our less enlightened fellow humans. We know intelligence, we know how to organise and to protest just by letting our heart pour through our hands.

We have knitted to a lot of statues over the years, we even invented a verb: scarfing! We know that knitting activism works. 🧶 Here is a great example from Denmark where knitters have created a public awareness about the lack of female representation among public statues in Denmark. The action was even highlighted in an article in the New York Times! Knittingforclimate loves this soft-material-impact on politics. Equality starts with representation and recognition. We knit, crochet, weave and embroider a new system that is built on justice, care and respect for Mother Earth.

The Swedish’ Rebelmom’s knitting-action on Overshoot Day 21 April 2024, when people in Sweden knitted 4.3 km Red Line for the Paris Agreement, is now a travelling exhibition. This is from a church in Stockholm, Sweden. We still knit for climate, now we knit for the trees and the forests, we will never give up. We want to thank priest Hanna Holmlund and the for the invitation. With ❤️🕊️🧶 from Knittingforclimate Sweden

Knitting in the woods! During an event where people could visit a forest and walk around and experience Art and craftyvism a Rebelmom sat down to knit for climate. She turned a tree into an Artistic sculpture by wrapping it with knitted resistance. This is an example of what you can do to protect what you love. Trees and primarily forests are extremely important as carbon sinks and as pools of biodiversity.

We went to Sapmí to defend the forests together with Sami people, an indigenous group who who are reindeer herders. We stood as one with a lot of other groups like Greenpeace Sverige, Skogsupproret, Skogsvärn etc. We brought our knitted resistance and made a ceremony where all of us wrapped the trees with red knitted scarves and sang songs. We also brought embroideries that we put up in the trees. And then declared the place protected. We found endangered species like Eurasian three-toed woodpecker which we reported.
